Most of the whinging and bitter posters on TV will be horrified that you'd spent over 2 million baht here in Thailand on property.

Surely some mistake? :D

Great thread for comparing prices in different parts of Thailand, even though what you want and what you get when selling can be a different story. Here is what I had built contract cost was 1.76M Baht in 2008 then we had an upgrade of 200K for interiors and since then other add on`s and upgrades just completing the wall.

We have had this discussion several times in the past. I'm certainly NOT in the whinging and bitter crowd, BUT, it is beyond me why retired guys bring their brides up country and end up building a HUGE home for their love nest. A two bedroom two bathroom home that occupies a hundred and thirty square meters is very livable. My wife and I had an agreement when we moved upcountry that if any of her family moves in, I'm headed back to the farang ghetto with or without her. If that were to happen, I could walk away from the property I bought for her without any financial problems.

I do realize that not everyone is a crotchety old fart like me and some actually enjoy living with her extended family. My wife is welcome to visit her family in the next village anytime she likes. Her family respects my desire for privacy even if they don't understand it.
