VAF1B 'Family Visitor Visa' Questions

Featured Replies

Hi

My mother-in-law will shortly be applying for a Family Visitor visa. She has children but as they are all of adult age being not dependant on her for support, she will be leaving question 4.17 (Please provide full details of your dependant children' blank. However I am unsure whether questions 4.16 (Do you have any children?) and 4.18 (Do all your children live with you at the address given in question 3.1) is specifically regarding just dependant children :?
Thanks in advance

Mermot

For the avoidance of doubt, don't forget the ECO doesn't have much time to assess the application, in 4.17 I wouldn't leave blank I would write "adult children, no longer dependant", if it allows her to do so, in 4.16 I would say "yes, no longer dependent" and 4.18 "no".

That's my take.

Are you talking about the paper VAF ? You cannot submit paper applications in Bangkok any more, it is all done online now. The questions are different in the online application form. In the online VAF, question 51 asks if you have any dependent children, and their details. Question 52 asks about non-dependent children.

Thanks. Yes I was looking at the paper-based form but was aware that the application instead would need to made on-line. I had naively assumed that the questions on the paper form would be identical to the on-line version. The on-line questions look to be not as ambiguous as those asked on the paper one.
