VocalNeal
'Variomatic' IIRC, horrible indeed, the 750cc flat-twin engines sounded worse than the old VW bug. Yes they were belt driven but CVT is the magic answer. Technical boffins will remember that the twin belt drive also acted as a non slip diff. Later ones were 1300 in-line 4 Jan De Rooy used mid engine Ford BDA and 4WD but still belt driven CVT. The engine sat transverly "in the passenger seat" Here's a DAF Techno F3 car (had to Google to get this) Williams F1 also experimented with DAF CVT in F1 cars in early 90's. Worked so well that F1 banned CVT in 1994 Edited February 10, 2014 by VocalNeal
VocalNeal
OK next question for Ford fans what do the following mean for their series of 4-cylinder rally and race engines. TC BDA FVA Ace no Googling! First one is easy , second sort of, the third?
transam
FVA.................Four Valve Heads ?..............
VocalNeal
Then that would be FVH? Although technically an FVA does have 4-valves per cylinder as for that matter does a BDA The answer is more colloquial than absolute. Ace will be along in a minute with his mouse! VocalNeal
Woodsie, Again technically correct but they are easier colloquialisms or commonly used expressions to explain them. OK lets make it a little better If TC stands for Twin Cam what do....... stand for. Edited February 10, 2014 by VocalNeal
