webfact Posted February 3, 2014 Share Posted February 3, 2014 Chalerm vows to reopen all besieged government offices February 6BANGKOK: -- Head of the Center for the Maintaining of Peace and Order (CMPO) Chalerm Yubamrung vowed to reopen all government offices forced to close by People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protesters from Thursday February 6.Chalerm who is also caretaker Labour Minister, said protesters who obstruct the reopening of these offices, particularly PDRC leaders, would be arrested.But he assured that in making arrest, the CMPO would mainly rely on negotiations, not violence.He said the government needed to reopen those offices so that government officials could return to work to service the people.He also said the election yesterday was carried out under democratic rules. " Isn't it wonderful that Chalerm's abilities to tell people what they should do has been undiminished by this massive cream pie to CMPO, in the form of an election that left large swaths of the country in electoral darkness ? By tacitly admitting that 475 seats were not achieved for a quorum ( even though he earlier stated that 265 to 280 would certainly go to Pheu Thai ! ) we have in fact, a parliament that is only 387 MPs filled ( assuming that none of them receive election infractions ) as fresh new elections for 113 constituencies need to be held, including provinces that were blacked out, ones that never opened, problems that beset many others, and constituencies with only one candidate. Chalerm needs to realize that yesterday was the easy part ! Getting all those constituencies to suddenly appear is going to be between challenging and near-impossible. If CMPO was responsible for the success of yesterday, today's assurances of future success seem hollow, as the administration is now reduced to setting deadlines for even the opening of government offices in Bangkok. The reference to 180 days is interesting, however, and one should not be the least bit surprised of it, as Pheu Thai quickly morphed from the necessity of the election, to it being a mere impediment. Why is it interesting ? Because they expect to govern - without a parliament, and without a mandate. Welcome to the world of Chalerm, where everything is possible. No doubt he is trying to create an illusion 'it's all over',,, 'we won the election',,, 'now back to business as normal'. And he's deliberately not mentioning that they cannot form any sort of new and working parliament right now. He's wrong, it's not over until there is reform before elections. First time i have seen this on this protest phase. Could be the start of planning a big push for them. Time will tell. About time if it is actually happening but will be quite surprised if the police do anything significant unless Sutheps backers have finally thrown him on the scrap heap. He could just say / said " vow to reopen......very soon, in the next little while." I seem to remember Feb 3 for Government Complex...the day after the election.
