Pre V-Day Restaurant Recos For Western Couple

Featured Replies

Errr, kinda last minute plans here. Need some assistance. Saw some other threads on romantic restaurants but they seemed to be aimed at thai places.

Will be taking Ms. StudMeyer out on Tuesday or Wednesday for an Early Valentines Day Dinner. Were both expats so looking for a western style place.

Can anyone suggest a romantic restaurant with a view? Price is no object.

Requirements:

1.) View = City or River (aka not an alley, inside of a hotel etc..)

2.) Nice enough so Ms. SM can get dressed up. ie I dont want to sit accross from a backpacker with dreadlocks and no shoes

3.) Food = Good. Thai food OK but would prefer western style eats

4.) Menu in English. Neither of our Thai skills is that great yet, would rather have a nice meal and not get surprised

5.) Romantic - ie tables not squished together, nice lighting, blah blah blah

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions. smile.png

Cheers,

SM

Try Dhara Devi. Excellent ambience and service. The Chinese restaurant there, Fujian, has some very interesting dishes.

Expect to pay about 5000 for 2 including wine.

^ Agreed on Dhara Dhevi, but for Western food do their Farangses restaurant.

Or.. The House on Moon Muang.. went through some ups and downs and I'm actually not sure of the current status. Tripadvisor shows a bit of a mixed bag, with some 5 star reviews and some that mention some negatives. http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g293917-d3860913-Reviews-The_House_Restaurant-Chiang_Mai.html

On the river you have River Market.. Same management as Dukes but a much better ambience and different menu of Thai-Western fusion dishes. Not sure if that's Western enough, but it's definitely a nice spot. Though perhaps not if you truly want the most fancy.

For a special occasion such as a Valentine Day Dinner, I would take her to the Wang Tong restaurant. Probably one of Chiang Mai`s best kept secrets.

It is situated beside a nice lake that has swans and fountains. The venue has opera singers, candle light and all the trimmings. Not that expensive either. Good selection of farang, Thai and Chinese food.

Last time I took a girl there for Valentine day, she raped me when we arrived home. Never recovered from the shock and brutality of it all.

Go onto the Hang Dong road. Passed Tesco Lotus on the left. About 1 kilometre on the right you will see a big Sony sign. Turn left where you see a big neon sign advertising the restaurant. Go down the soi for about 3 kilometres. It ends at the restaurant.

Can't speak for the food but the view from the barbeque on top of the Furama is spectacular The whole city and the mountain.

I might be a little off with the name it is the one that was origanaly going to be hillside 5 You can walk through the front door of the hillside 4 and walk all the way through it to the Furama.

Chedi has recently changed hands. Not sure if they made any changes.

I like the river side but not sure if it would be romantic. Possibly up on the second floor. Then again I am not a romantic type guy so it might be they have added some western food to the menu.

I would recommend the top floor Roof Top Restaurant at Porn Ping Hotel.

When you go up sit on the LEFT hand side and you will have wonderful views of the river below as well as a great view of the almost FULL Moon.

Has live music playing softly with great views and the food is not bad.

Enjoy.

The Chedi

The Crystal

Both of these look like they will do nicely.
