What's expected in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

My wife looked at a news report of bushfires that have destroyed tens of thousands of hectares of countryside in Australia and innocently said: "Chiang Mai will be like that soon."

In Australia you can be sentenced to many years in gaol for lighting a bushfire. In Chiang Mai - oh well.

What's the question?

Will the air suck in late Feb / March: Yes.

Will forest be lost due to fires: No.

will forest be lost to fires: yes......all the new small seedlings which are supposed to be the regeneration is killed by fire

Ah, they can all "Go To Blazes!"

Most of the bush fire in Aussie are down south in the cooler region of Aussie the type of trees that grow there are more likely to catch fire and the greenies that controlled the last government stopped the back burning and clearing of the dead fuel on the ground, unlikely to happen in Chiang Mai because it is a jungle type forest and not full of dry ground fuel

A lot of Aussie seeds need fire to crack them so they can germinate and will lie dormant for years
