Villa Patong to close

I do not see why it could not be built in Kathu. Never been to the Patong one, and happier because of it.

I agree, if it was in Kathu I would definitely have supported it.

I usually go to the one in Chalong when visiting mates etc.

I am surprised that Villa's business plan was so short sighted. Not really surprised, the wrong sort of customers, not enough long term expats, poor parking, one way system is a driver's nightmare. The Patong Deli has the same problems and is struggling along.

surprised as well BUT the parking is great, ( round back)

Plenty of long term expats in Patong year round as well, I think its that the rent is the main reason for getting out, must be alot more than Laguana or Chalong.

Patong deli has never been able to find their niche for the past 20 years

Not so sure I agree with your analysis of the Patong Deli. 10 years it was thriving with Expat customers. The opening of Carrefor was the start of it's demise. Then the one way system added to it,s problem, just too far to drive round Patong. I suspect the same could be said for Villa, just to much hassle to drive there.

Villa must have calculated the rent cost in their model. To close so quickly can only mean that they have not got the customer sales figures. Or maybe they have an early bail out clause.

+ 1 if in Kathu i would use.

There are enough expacts in patong and parking (under the building) should not be a problem except for the traffic.

But the rent will be bloody high and they don't have the correct assortment.

There is almost no meat or fresh section and it feels more like a 7/11 then a villa market.

And as mentioned Deli started struggling from the day that Carrefour opened.

They have nowhere near the variety that the Chalong store has and many of the items were around 10% more expensive.............not really a good mix in my book.

To be honest I never even bothered going into the Patong store to have a look about. I can only guess that the prices have to be hiked up to pay for the rent.

That's why I would never buy in the Patong McDonalds, far too expensive compared with Phuket Town stores.
