Suthep and the yellows wont settle for anything less than a power grab.

Democracy is not for them, they know they can never win long medium or long term.

Pheu Thai are making the right moves. At best, it might just work, and if it does't, Suthep and his followers will be exposed even more for the power hungry anti-democratic bullies they are.

Are there any neutral persons of authority in Thailand?

IMO, Anand or Ammar Siamwalla would have been good choices, but they are both associated with the academic Establishment. Anand more so.

How about Chuwit? He has criticized both sides. At least he knows how to broker deals.

edit: Doesn't it strike anybody as weird that Thaksin's lawyer is a member of the cabinet?

paragraph 1, I agree not many spring to mind.

Chuwit would be a good choice i think, He has a business mind, But also knows the snake pit of politics. Chewy for interim Pm.

Why strange. He both sisters, brother in law , cousins, soon possibly nephews that the lawyer kinda seems appropriate. NOT right you understand but appropriate. And also not forgetting long time friends from Police and armed forces academy class 10.

Gweiloman mentioned:

Fact that you can't even spell his name correctly (it's Noppadon by the way) points to you being more moronic.

______________________________________

No big deal. An "l" at the end of a sylable is pronounced as a "n", a "s" becomes a "t" at the end and a "j" also becomes a "t".

You can read these things in every Thai learning material for foreigners. And how about the "new" airport.

Suthep's family name is also always spelled wrong,- if you go by the way it is pronounced. Does it matter? Seems not.

Noppadon ! ! ! Thaksins Lawyer ! ! ! Neutral party ! ! ! What in heavens name are these people smoking that they think that the rank and file or everyday Thai would think or accept that he was neutral ????

Mustn't forget to fomer MP on People Power Party's Executive Committee who was banned for electoral fraud and Foreign Minister in the similarly banned brother-in-law-of-Thaksin former PM Somchai's Cabinet to the impressive resume of this neutral individual.

Btw, how is the criminal case for this so-called lawyer's indictment for malfeasance progressing after 5 years of waiting?

mediation, dialogue...potential to see a way forward,if not a solution. How could this be anything but good news and a genuine display of good faith intentions. Well done, Yingluck and co...way to go!

A day late and a dollar short. Actually, a few years late and billions of dollars short. Her campaign platform was national reconciliation. Why wait till now? When she's backed into a corner. This all could of have been avoided. Entirely the government's responsibility.

"Reconciliation" was the buzz word during the democrat's ride in office.

But they were a bit of a lame duck government. Their arms were tied behind their back. And they didn't get elected with reconciliation as a major campaign promise. Right?

The Public Administration graduate whose initial exposure to leadership was to helm the business arms of older brother Thaksin, campaigned on a platform of national reconciliation, poverty eradication, and corporate income tax reduction.

On the basis that there is nobody in Thailand with the ability to mediate that could be in any way be described as neutral, Chuwit Kamolvisit seems to be an excellent proposal!!! He hates Thaksin, he hates the PDRC, he hates Suthep, he hates the police - in fact he hates more or less everybody. Thus rendering himself about the most neutral politician in Thailand!!!!

I wish Yingluk could put on the table that if elections are completed and Govt reformed, she would step down and allow another PT person carry the torch. Truly, she cant enjoy this job and truly, its best for the nation. Will Thaksin still have influence? Yes. But at least not as head of state.

I would not say he hates all those parties you mention, but he does have a public policy against corruption and hypocrisy.

Might just work. Probably not.

Both sides would hate for him to blackmail them with the dirt he has on them.
