CRACKDOWN
Somkiat mysteriously rescued

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- SOMKIAT PONGPAIBOON, a co-leader of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), said a team of unidentified, highly-skilled men dressed in black rescued him yesterday from a police truck in which he was detained.

The protest leader had been arrested during a police operation to reclaim the Phan Fah Lilat Bridge area from protesters yesterday. Somkiat said he was standing on the bridge when police approached and tied his wrists behind his back after realising that he was protest leader. He was then escorted to a police truck for detention parked near the King Rama 3 Memorial Park.

Somkiat said that as he did not put up any resistance, police freed his arms after he was locked in the truck for about 45 minutes after a clash erupted outside.

Later, while the police were making a retreat, an unidentified man opened the truck's door and four other men in black escorted him to the Thai Airways' headquarters on Larn Luang Road, he said.

He said one of his rescuers had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The protest leader said the five men's had not covered their faces. He didn't think they were police but said they seemed skilled at their job.

Meanwhile, police managed to reclaim the protest site outside the Energy Ministry occupied by some 80 PDRC protesters led by Rawee Maschamadol.

The protesters surrendered without resisting and were escorted to the Border Patrol Police Region 1 in Pathum Thani's Klong Luang district.

They were later visited by PDRC lawyer Samnuan Prapin, who said the move to disperse protesters was illegal because the Civil Court had earlier issued an injunction against the government's imposition of the emergency decree.

The court is due to announce its verdict today on whether the imposition of the emergency decree is lawful. However, the authorities ignored this and hastily dispersed the protesters, he said.

The lawyer said PDRC co-leader Thaworn Senneam would file a petition with the court to report that the government had violated the court's injunction order and would call on the court to issue another injunction to protect protesters.

" the move to disperse protesters was illegal because the Civil Court had earlier issued an injunction against the government's imposition of the emergency decree."

There must be a soap opera script writer amongst the Fates choreographing everyone.

we save him.

the thai people.

Now he has more charges like escaping from custody.

Unless the SOE had indeed just become illegal, in which case his arrest was possibly illegal, so the mysterious third-hand was rescuing the police from charges of having illegally-arrested him, it all gets crazier and crazier, also funnier and funnier to a casual observer ... ? whistling.gif

Just another case of 'Amazing Thailand' ! laugh.png

P.S. I don't really believe the first line to be the case, but you never know here ...

Skilled at their job. 100% Definitely not the police

Teenage mutant ninja turtles perchance?

It's stuff like this which makes Thai politics more fantastic than any scriptwriter could imagine. Never a dull moment, especially now that Ai Lerm has showed his cards and is already getting serious egg on his face. The man in Dubai must be smarting at his choice of lieutenant for the job of retaking Bangkok. Bad tactical move letting Ai Lerm of the leash.....rolleyes.gif

You have to ask how the police can arrest such a high profile wanted man, chain and handcuff him and then somehow let him escape.

The Thai police are such a joke.

where did you read all this

at no time did I see he was arrested in chains

he was detained in a police van

I think a trainie lawyer could have that one thrown out of court

Hmmm .. 'skilled at their job' sounds like military or border guards, if the military are intervening, they are providing protection from a corrupt Gov, hell will freeze over before he faces any court.

He didn't think they were police but said they seemed skilled at their job

And this rescue and escort took place in complete silence from both sides Marcel Marceau style?

Ah the magic of mime. smile.png

I have no idea how the Thai law determines such a thing but in Europe you are only 'in custody' when you have been booked at the police station.

Perhaps a more apt charge would be making the police lose face.

As I keep repeating, Suthep has the real power backing him, the Shins are now in in the realms of taking desperate measures. For the sake of the country the Military need to issue an ultimatum. Shins book your flights out of the country, PTP find a legitamate leader and lets re run the election.

Suthep has some big people looking after the shop , I wouldn't quiet say backing directly.

Australia uses the Westminster system and Thailands legal system is also based on it. Once you have been arrested you are in custody. This guy had a warrant on him, the warrant was executed and he was taken into custody.

Where were the police when all that was going on, walked away, lunch time or what ?

Issuing on the spot fines for motorcyclists passing by without their headlights on.

And in the final scene, newly appointed caretaker Prime Minister Chalerm (Lermbo) rides off into the sunset with his pockets bulging with money.

I am going to sue you for mental trauma! w00t.gif

I thought the "Westminster system" was a political system not a legal system.

Now be fair, chooka is Australian and to Aussies, anyone in a suit is either a politician or a lawyer. biggrin.png

Such a pity you don't have the same thinking of saving people in the slave trading of Cambodian and Burmese on Thai fishing boats,

What was your comment there about saving people??? more than a few here will recall what you said...

Stay on topic, there is a thread about this subject if you want to post there.

Ah good, the procedural police have arrived, and just in time as the thread was getting way out of hand.
