June 3, 200619 yr Oh well... Couldn't make it as I was waiting for a truck fully loaded with equipment this afternoon and it came more than 4 hours late. I'll get some frustration out by beating on my drum machine tonight. Got it back from the repair shop, it only took a year!
June 4, 200619 yr Author What a great performance it was! SJ: Couldn't find you, didn't they allow you in with your TV uniform? Here are some pics:
June 4, 200619 yr Bangkok Herald-Examiner Special Report Drummer Bill Bruford (formerly with Yes; King Crimson; Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, and Howe) teamed up with saxophonist Tim Garland (formerly with the Chick Corea Band), bassist Laurence Cottie (formerly with the Eric Clapton Band), and pianist Gwilym Simcock to play as jazz-fusion group, "Earthworks." They played their final concert of the Thailand leg of their Southeast Asia tour last night. World class musicians of this caliber playing in a small intimate venue (perhaps only 200 in attendance)with top quality equipment are indeed a rare occurence in the LOS and it turned out to be a most splendid evening. Silverlake is an amazing facility and shuttled people to and from the parking lot to the outdoor amphitheater in electric golf-carts... as well as, amazingly enough, to and from the restroom facilities (which were a fair distance away)... VIP treatment was extended to every ticket-holder. Top-drawer level concert.... 5 out of 5 stars awarded. Earthworks: ...and just to top off the evening... Mr. Bruford turned out to be quite a humorous guy as we chatted briefly. He was, as well, kind enough to shake my hand and autograph the "been there, done that" T-shirt... along with the pianist Qwilym who was also there after the concert... a very very very good concert with front row center seats.... with sincere apologies for the crap level photo... I fear the Gilbey's London Dry Gin coupled with the Schweppe's Tonic Water, fresh sliced lime all in a tall cool glass of ice somehow adversely effected how the camera worked. A much better photo, from their Hua Hin concert the night before (courtesy of the front page of Bangkok Post on Sunday), is available on www.pressdisplay.com Lastly, no other Thaivisa members apparently attended... but that's ok... it took 3 scheduled piss-ups at Blues Factory before meeting another member... ----------------------------------- I obviously wrote all this prior to reading others posts...
June 5, 200619 yr An itsy-bitsy photo from www.bangkokpost.com of the larger one available at www.pressdisplay.com "The audience packs the beach at Hua Hin to catch a live performance of the UK band Bill Bruford's Earthworks at the three-day annual Hua Hin Jazz Festival, which ends today."
June 5, 200619 yr Top-drawer level concert.... 5 out of 5 stars awarded. A pity I couldn't make it... I really must have a strong talk with my missus about these unannounced and uninvited visitors... Glad you enjoyed it SJ and Raro.
