Steambox with Nvidia 750Ti

Featured Replies

Anybody plan to build a sff computer for living room to play games instead of buying overpriced PS4/XB1 ?

Geforce 750 Ti is powerful enough to play games at 1080p and uses only 64 Watts, that makes it ideal choice for small factor pcs.

Most of the parts can be bought in Thailand but mini itx cases seems a bit expensive.

What do you think?

I got in the in-home streaming beta. Completely disappointed with the performance - we're talking single digit frames per second here. So the hardware I was going to use as a steambox just wont cut it.

However - I tried Limelight-PC and got a steady 720p 60fps stream sending my PC games to my TV via the little PC - no controller lag also, I am very impressed.

Limelight also exists for the Raspberry-Pi (I had problems with sound on this) and Android devices, and is pretty much 70% of what a steambox is.....

Steam OS is not really necessary. Most people can install windows one way or another. Important thing is having a powerful gpu in a small box with enough juice (cpu) to play AAA games (BF4, COD etc) at 1080p without problems.

I also have desktop pc upstairs with good gpu and cpu but streaming from upstairs is kind of lame, I could go upstairs and play in my desktop using 27" IPS 1080p monitor instead of 47" TV.

The idea of having a mini powerful pc in living room to play games instead of pc-made-nextgen consoles is appealing.
