Yeah we await the red apologists posting here claiming innocence and that it serves to purpose for red shirts to do something like this. whistling.gif

Indeed. It was probably the court employees attacking themselves...

A bit frightening for me since I was having coffee about 300m from the court this morning at around the same time. Well within range of a badly aimed shot.

How come all these attacks only end up shooting gateposts or blowing up front lawns or by chance occasionally killing or injuring passers-by. Not only are they ill-planned and ineffective, they also seem to be completely incompetent.

As the UDD have now campaigned rather vigorously against the independent agencies, the Civil Court and the Criminal Court - as their rulings have not been to their liking - it simply completes the puzzle in many people's minds.

EOD team inspects scene of grenade attack at Criminal Court

BANGKOK, 3 March 2014 (NNT) - Two grenades were thrown at the Criminal Court on Ratchadapisek Road on Monday morning. No injuries were reported.

According to reports, one small bomb exploded near the court’s fences and the other failed to go off. Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams are being sent in to inspect the scene and to safely defuse the un-exploded grenade.

Witnesses said two unknown assailants on a motorcycle fled the scene by making a turn into a small soi near the court.

The Traffic Police Division has sealed off the outbound lane of Ratchadapisek Road, following the incident. Motorists have been urged to avoid the route due to heavily congested traffic.

The UDD announced publicly that they were going to attack the courts and the independent agencies not bowing to the Thaksin regime, looks like they have come good on their promises.

Time for the army to round up the UDD and put them all into a military prison, the police won't do it as they are in the same camp. so the army need to act.

We need to cut the head off the snake... Every day that they delay, we are moving closer to an almost identical situation in the north as there is in the south, but I fear on a very very much larger scale, and unlike the atrocities in the south, it will involve BKK too.

The UDD con't to do these things since they generally get away with it. Time for the army to imprison the red leaders indeed, set some examples through repercussions.

I have a feeling this one was launched, not gently tossed or thrown as this story and many suggest. You'd have to walk inside the main gate to 'throw it' or stand on the footpath on the main road to just make it over the wall or the gates.

UDD prefer an M79 mostly it appears? A communist's most comfortable launcher is it?

Yes, the M79 is the terrorist's ideal grenade launcher. It is small like a sawed off shotgun and be tucked under a jacket. It is not terribly accurate beyond 100-200m but has very little recoil and flash to give away the user's location. In 2010 they also used a lot of RPGs which have a better range and accuracy and fire more powerful shells but are much bigger and have a big recoil and flash back. The M79 was a Vietnam war weapon and has been replaced in the US military with the B203 grenade launcher that attaches to an M16 rifle but fires the same 40mm grenades. Nevertheless the M79 is still in service with the Thai military and in Cambodia and there are plenty available on the black market. As mentioned, the 40mm are still current NATO ordinance, so not hard to find.

My hope is that they don't escalate to mortars and car bombs.

I am sure they have a direct order to go after courts and judiciary. Remember the first order to mobilise the red shirts for a major action came in 2009 just after the Supreme Court had ordered the confiscation of Thaksin's B46bn. Judges will probably go in car bombs next.
