Any Taunggyi expats out there?

Featured Replies

Would appreciate some information on Taunggyi.

Approx. size of expat community?

Housing - Western standards? Good? Bad? Rents?

Western food restaurants?

Groceries? Imports available?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Last time I was there, there was one. Don't know if he is still about, but he used to run a vineyard. You can go there for some nice snacks a few bottles of plonk so maybe you'll catch up. He used to have a few younger french lads there, but I dont know if thats still the case. Take your golf clubs and a camera as the scenery is awesome and there's plenty of golf courses for you to waste a few hours on. From what I remember of the town, dont expect a Big-C or central (but then again, things may have changed!).

What are you going up there for? Maybe I can hook you up with a few like minded guys who may occasionally travel up those parts...

Thanks Phazey,

Looking for a 3-4 month stay to get away from the heat! Difficult to get first hand info about extended stays in Taunggyi.

The vineyard is probably this - http://www.myanmar-vineyard.com/ - very nice, a short drive from Taunggyi. I think the owner is german

Boris who runs Le Planteur in Yangon own half of this hotel in Inle lake - it's about 40 mins drive from Taunggyi. They have excellent western food and bring in ingredients, you may be able to buy some ingredients from them

I don't think you'll find many expats in Taunggyi itself but let us know
