I went for an X-ray at Camilian Hospital a while ago. The guy was supposed to X-ray the fibula head but ended up X-raying most of my leg, right up to my genitals! What would the cause of this be? Was it poor skills on the part of the operator or limited equipment or poor instructions from the doctor? It seems not to be a good idea to unnecessarily X-ray someone's testicles considering the cancer risk (small but real). I think I need an X-ray of my shoulder rotator cuff but I'm worried they'll X-ray my entire head and torso.

Did you actually see the film (and it showed the entire femur?) or are you going by where you were standing?

And do you know exactly what the doctor ordered?

Nobody would Xray only the head of the fibula, at the least they would film the entire leg and knee joint.

I saw the film and it included most of the femur. I don't know exactly what the doctor ordered by I did clarify with the operator that I needed the left knee done. There was no problem at all above the joint. I had to lie down for the X-ray. Actually two X-rays, both sides of the same leg.

It would be appropriate to include both fibular joints; ankle and knee as an initial screening X-ray. Specific MRI can be done later involving the head/knee joint only if needed.

It would be more common to do an MRI on a rotator cuff rather than an X-ray.
