Thinking of going for a 5 day getaway to one of the above locations. I'm keen to go to Trang but I've heard the sea is rough then and the weather can be very rainy. Of the three, Samui appears to be the better option weatherwise.

I'd welcome any comments and recommendations from people on the locations. With Samui being an island - what would be the best side to be? Would it make a difference weatherwise?

Re Trang, I understand I would need to travel a couple of hours to see the best beaches in the Province. Having a nice beach is very important and I would prefer a v.nice hotel and not too touristy if that's at all possible these days!

Thanks again

beaches in trang beat krabi and samui hands down, they are deserted though and no buildings apart from pak meng which is a little busier, can recommend rua rassada hotel in trang town great hotel very very quiet has nice pool ,tennis courts and gym has about 300 rooms guarantee their will be no more than 20 guest staying their, its about 40 min to hour drive to the beaches from there,i love quiet places so loved it there.

krabi has some ok beaches if you go kloung moung check out beyond resort ,tub kaek any hotel along them beaches are ok bit expensive for me though,i have stayed krabi for 8 years and have visited trang and samui in the last 4 weeks ,trang was best for me but you really do want to have your own car if you go there.

also have some of the best islands available to visit from trang .

off coarse july/aug can be hit and miss with weather any beach resort gets pretty boring if you hit a 3 day rainy spell.

almost forgot if you want quality beach front trang check out Anantara Si Kao Resort & Spa.

Sounds like you really know your stuff, taninthai! If you have time, could you reply to this topic?

Don't want to get off topic here!!!

The only experience I have down south in July/August is Phuket. I was there about 5 years ago for the month of August. It rained 25 out of 31 days. Many beach businesses were closed. A very slow time.

I think Samui might be a better bet? Others would know more about that.

It might be an idea to check weather, as west coast (Krabi areas) rainy season could dampen things in July and August ...

Samui and Koh Phangan are generally dryer then...wink.png

west coast July/august is the low /Rainy season and u get onshore winds which is great if ur into Body surfing an surfing, not so great if u like flat seas and the sea can be very rough for swiming.

Did i say it rains!! :-)

many of the west coast beach areas ( shopes/ restaurants) on phuket shut down end of April- Oct ( Kamala, Bang Tao, Surin, Layan, Nai Yung) because of the on shore wind

same goes for Krabi/Lanta an further south.

If ur looking for good weather head to the east coast,
I was just in Songkla last week stayed at B. P. Samila Beach Hotel on the beach, ( 1,750 for huge sea view room) great place buffet breakfast,, views, pool and some great seafood places nearby. Enough attractions ot keep u busy for 3-4 days.

Alos further north there are some nice beaches in Chumpon, Prachup Khi khan,

my experience of living absolute beachfront in krabi for 6 years ,weather between may to august is generally good weather just as hot as march/april maybe a few more clouds around, however you can get a couple of tropical storms blow in which will last anything from 3-7 days ,this normally happens once or twice at any time in the given period, the rain for krabi comes sept and october ,nothing shuts down in krabi ,in fact ao nang stays quite busy all year round now ,a lot of se asian tourist come during this time singapore, malt etc,etc

ko lanta different story a lot of it shuts down and is very quiet.

see the difference a storm makes
