Dvds Dont Work Please Help

I bought a DVD player in Thailand. If I try to play my Region 1 DVDs or some of the Bootlegged DVDs I bought in MBK, the picutre is perfect but there is no sound when the actors speak. The music plays perfectly though.

I dont know if I need a region hack, or if the dialouge has been disabled. I cannot read the setup menus because they are in Thai.

Any ideas?

These DVDs were tested in front of me, and they worked perfectly on their DVD player. What do you think?
