Supreme Court sentences Yongyut's wife five years in prison

So it takes seven years, to come to a verdict? And it is not five years! prison. The whole country is a joke.

There are worse places. in UK & USA you can get locked up for years without even being charge for any crime and without being told what you're supposed to have done wrong. That is much more scary that a slow justice system.

When you have stopped slagging everyone----we are talking about Thailand -and the injustice here because of her -Connections-she gets off near scot free.

Suppose in Zimbabwe we could find injustice. The topic Thailand and a courts verdict.

The judicial ruling on this case only serves to reinforce the fact that there is no true justice in this broken society and that corruption exists in all aspects of this country and culture.

Anyone with a substantial bank account and influential friends can be forgiven, however, the poor have to bear the full brunt of the law.

And we foreigners coming here spending near all our money and paying tax. We are equally as bad as her or even more bad, as we have to attend every 90 days, over a lifetime, not probation for 3 years. JOKE. Just shows you what they think of us.

You don't have to attend anywhere every 90 days. You can report by post. Apply for permanent residency and you don't have to report at all. You are talking crap.

I am sure we all trust the Thai postal system every 90 days, may as well attend to be sure.

And I am sure we all can get permanent residence

As soon as I read the topic title,my first thought was :how much Jail time is Yongyuts wife going to be let off?

What is the point of these Jail sentences? it seems like one huge farce to me.once jail time has been commuted there is nothing left to serve in actual Jail time.!

many Thai women are becoming corrupt these days -- farang beware and remember longtime has longtime dangers as they try to suck your dollar

More xenophobic and misogynist nonsense.

With an attitude like yours I'm not surprised that someone would want to cheat you. I'm already thinking of ways to get your money based on your stupid comment.

Spoken like a true Newbie!

If my math is correct she has to visit the monkey house for only 6 months, right?

If I read it right, she has to pay 50K and that was it.

Would seem that way. Oathetic really - I wonder if there's a limit to how many 'however's can be issued during a court verdict....

Well at least she was prosecuted.

Given the charge, "provided false information during the registration of candidacy", and admitting that I am not familiar with the Thai legal/penal codes, the sentence seems not altogether unreasonable?

Even a Thai PDRC backer like Pornpimol "Pauline" Kanchanalak who plead guilty to felony and misdemeanor illegal campaign contribution charges in the U.S., received a $3,000 (USD) fine, and a "sentence" of six months of house arrest and three years of probation, which she ultimately got overturned.

If every Thai political candidate were subject to such scrutiny I suspect there might be quite a few more similar "convictions"?

Something tells me Thaksin's propaganda war against the so-called "Amarts" was not intended to cull one of his most trusted cronies with its first scalping. She must be even more irked that to please El Jefe, her husband led a mob of goons to pepper a poor old couple's house with bullets and didn't even get a slapped wrist!

Husband Yongyut was known by reporters as Yut Tu Yen or Yut The Fridge because his men fired around 50 rounds into the refrigerator the elderly woman was sheltering behind while the house was being shot up in the Wild West style drugs raid which netted not a single speed pill, nor a scrap of evidence that anyone in the household was involved in drug dealing. The police tried to take away the fridge in exchange for a new one but the couple decided to keep it as a souvenir and let the media have a field day with it. Happy memories of the first Thaksin govt and the War Against Drugs.

I would keep the fridge that saved my life as a souvenir also. That would be a good story to pass on to the grand kids.

Many stories that leaked out in Issan in particular, the Kalasin parents who are still looking for their boy..... The countless that vanished because they could never tell who the big boys were that were at the top of the tree, was another story.

How many top people were shot/vanished that were the main suppliers ?? average persons that vanished or were found in remote areas were the youngsters who were taking small amounts, for personal use.

All these victims should have been in custody not in as in some toilet wells, and the like, as stories were told years ago.
