BANGKOK: -- Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) police late Monday morning successfully defused a 15-kilo fertilizer bomb placed at the wall fence of the Office of the Attorney-General on Ratchadapisek Road.

The bomb made off urea nitrate was set to go off by an alarm clock at 9.00 a.m..

Phaholyothin police were alerted of a suspicious object at 6.50 a.m. today by passers-by near the entrance to the Office of the Attorney-General.

They arrived with car tyres to encircle the suspected object which an alarm clock was seen tied with black tape to the explosive and placed on a dusk bin.

The object was placed near a bus stop in front of the Office of the Attorney-General.

The police then sealed off outbound traffic on two lanes of the Ratchadapisek road for safety reasons and alerted the EDO to inspect the suspicious object.

EOD police arrived at 8.30 a.m. amid the eyes of hundreds of officials working in the Office and nearby court compound, and passing vehicles on another lane of the road who paused to have a look.

Primary examination showed it is a fertilizer bomb attached with a fire-extinguisher tank similar to those used by the southern militants in attacks on government authorities. Destructive perimeter of the fertilizer bomb is about 20-30 meters, EOD police said.

The bomb was later defused before it was set to go off at 9 a.m.

Prosecution officials said that the incident was reported to the Attorney-General Attapol Yaisawang who is currently on official inspection trip in France this morning.

The deputy attorney-general said the suspicious object was intended to intimidate officials, but the motive was not known yet.

Meanwhile another bomb was also found almost a kilometer from the first scene.

It was placed on the sidewalk near the Judicial Training Institute on the same road.

EOD used high-pressure water gun to destroy its circuits.

The two missions caused traffic jams on Ratchadapisek, Lard Prao, and other nearby roads for several houses when EOD sealed off Ratchadapisek road on both inbound the outbound lanes to work for safety reasons.

Surapong says bomb at OAG is linked to its withdrawal from mediator’s role

surapong2-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul said that this morning’s bomb incident at the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) was caused by its withdrawal from the mediator’s role offered earlier by the seven independent agencies to resolve the current political impasse.

He said the OAG has pulled out from taking the mediator’s role with six other independent agencies under the Constitution to mediate the conflict between the caretaker government and the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC).

He said that it now left the mediator’s role to six independent agencies to work out a solution.

He said the independent agencies should have four issues in their mediation framework – to support election; to pledge they will perform duties with justices; self reform of independent agency to achieve trust and confidence from the people; and to dissolve parliament and undergo national reform to drive the country forward.

Surapong said that at the meeting of the caretaker cabinet tomorrow, it will consider the lifting of the state of emergency and enforce the internal security act instead.

The meeting will also discuss the proposal of the Center for Administration of Peace and Order to request the Army to remove all its bunkers in the capital back to their b barracks and will also invite all ambassadors to update the latest situation to restore confidence among foreigners of the country’s stability.

He also believed that the new leader of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship would be able to bring peace back to the country.

The physical consequence of the UDD's verbal war on the independent agencies are these attacks. This is clear to everyone. And the threat to the constitutional process and the judicial checks and balances is also clear.

Two home-made time bombs found outside Criminal Court
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Two home-made time bombs set to explode at 9 am were found outside the Criminal Court Monday morning.

Security officials of the court found one of the bombs at a bus stop in front of the Office of Public Prosecutors Region 1 and the other outside the front wall of the court.

Traffic on Ratchadaphisek Road was closed as explosive ordnance disposal officers defused the bombs.

Police Spokesman Pol Maj Gen Anucha Ramayanon said explosives weighing about 15 kilogrammes were found in each of the fire extinguishers used to make the bombs.

Anucha said the bomb could have caused damage in a 20- to 40-metre radius.

Anucha said investigators believe the two bombs were planted by the same group of people. He said police could not yet establish the motive behind the bombs.

Bombs found, defused at two Bangkok judicial compounds
By Digital Content

BANGKOK, Mar 17 - Two homemade bombs were found at separate locations within the compounds of judicial offices in Bangkok this morning.

Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technicians defused a bomb, attached to an alarm clock set for 9am, in a garbage bin near a taxi stand at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) on Ratchadapisek Road.

An expert said the bomb, if exploded, could spread across a 20-40 metre radius.

The explosive is similar to that used by militants in Thailand's far South and has never before been found in use during anti-government protests in Bangkok.

The second bomb was found in a garbage bin in front of the Judicial Training Institute, about 300 metres from the first location.

A Bangkok Metropolitan Administration garbage collector saw a suspicious-looking black plastic bag at about 6am and informed police.

An EOD team was dispatched to defuse the bomb.

Surapong Tovichakchaikul, caretaker Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister and chief adviser to the Centre for Managing Peace and Order (CMPO), said the AOG's refusal to join six other Constitution-endorsed independent agencies in declaring a joint resolution for the country could be the motive behind an attempt to create an incident on the AOG premises.

Seven independent agencies have offered to mediate the country's political impasse and planned to announce a series of resolutions.

CMPO director Chalerm Yubamrung said the AOG's withdrawal would weaken the independent agencies' move. (MCOT online news)

Now just HOW would Surapong "know" that this morning’s bomb incident at the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) was caused by its withdrawal from the mediator’s role offered earlier by the seven independent agencies to resolve the current political impasse?

Does he have a comment on the other two bombs that were planted as well?

Any condemnation of the bombers perhaps?

This is a deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of a country being torn apart and all he can do is to blame everybody else.

The ' Chalerm Syndrome ' ( I know what happened etc. ) is contagious it seems.

Obviously they will find that the perpetrators are red UDD terrorists and the case will be filed in the appropriate place.... the waste paper basket.......... same place as the child murders etc.....

Ko Tee may yet turn into a very powerful person with all this police and government backing.

Or is this the first stages of the Jatuporn led UDD that we are seeing???

He promised escalation and we are now seeing what he meant.

Obviously because he is heavily involved.

Not rocket science.... YL probably also knows the bombs were there and who planted them.

Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors and with almost a trillion baht embezzled, this administration will go to any and every length to keep power and the eyes off the books.

They know it will be like hiding an elephant under a postage stamp.

Not hard to know who is behind it all, not when you're one of those pulling the strings to make the puppets dance.

... has never before been found in use during anti-government protests in Bangkok ...

Interestingly enough it comes very shortly after the UDD terrorists and their leader stated that the battle will start.

This is a deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of a country being torn apart and all he can do is to blame everybody else.

He is probably a member of the Shin family committee that instructed the planting of the bomb which made it convenient for him to prepare a press release in advance. So why would he want to condemn it?

I am not sure of the logic of inviting the A-G to join in the discussion with the indep agencies, since it is not an indep agency. It is an arm of the govt that prosecutes on behalf of the govt and defends govt ministers when they are accused of corruption. Surapong's insinuation that the PDRC must have planted the bomb also lacks any logic. Why would they care either way? Also they have no obvious record of using explosives, except cases while under attack, while Surapong's red shirts have a long record of using explosives, grenades and RPGs since 2009.

Anarchy, complete anarchy. The judicial system is afraid of lawsuits, the military does not know what to do. The police do nothing, the government implements silly laws to "control", the so called opposition can only threaten.

What else did I miss? Even poorer, less developed countries like Cambodia and Burma do not do silly, stupid stuff like Thailand.
