yesterday i had another beautifull day in paradise.

went to home pro and want to buy some tails(8sqm) they looked for the price even made me a discount but: no have.

later i went to the gardening shop to buy a new blade for my motor sense,and guess what- may mee.

after that i went out to buy a wooden plank to build a shelf in my kitchen-4 shops later: no have.

but the final thing was that i went to my local mum and pop shop to grab some beer and even there:no have,and the excuse was that during the election ppl drunked to much and they were sold out.

OK i understand, but get your lazy a$$es out of the shop and buy new stock!!!

i always hear Thais complaining to have to less money but in the moment they have to do something for the buck they are just too lazy or ingnorant to do it.

rant over just had to let some steam off,actually i love it here but some times....

hahahahaha, mate I have come to expect that if you want something then it is probably not available at the time, every shop you go to seems to not have what you want but they do not order replacements. Even the big paint centres do not carry stock and have to order it in, <deleted>, white ceiling paint and quick dry undercoat are not carried in stock, must come from Bangkok.........they really have no idea how to run these places at times.

For some reason no one wants to have to take responsibility for anything being in the shops, come back next week

I think it is the frustration at what seems simple and normal at home but overly complicated here boiling over. And, lets face it we all use broad brush strokes whether racist or not. It is easier. I am as guilty of this but I would not say I am racist. I sometimes find living here very frustrating for very different reasons than I found living in London sometimes frustrating.

So many times I have read about, or experienced, shortages where you would not expect them. I don't know the reason. Is it supply problems, customs, bad re-order policy or bad management? Who knows but compared to the UK it happens very frequently here. And it is frustrating!

But there are so many compensations so I weigh it all up and the balance always comes down on living here.

But if people didn't post stuff like this what would you armchair warriors do with your day?

I hear ya, mate. I've done business with someone that seems to have half of what's advertised at all times. Doesn't seem to bother him at all. I'll never understand it.

While every Thai says they want more money, and seem to even worship money (and that almost all Thai's can be bought with enough money), what they can not get their heads around is the concept that...TIME IS MONEY.

Say that to a Thai and they will look at you like you have been smoking something. If you took every Thai in the country and never taught them another skill, but just had them be 'on time' for everything...I bet you could increase productivity in this country by 50%.

'Thoroughness' is another pet peeve. Thai's are the most un-thorough culture I have ever observed. Just slop-dick throw things together as fast a they can, and then there minds wonder off to something else. Actually, they mostly never really complete the task at hand before their minds wonder off to something else.

But that's just my opinion...

No reason for forum rules really. One should be able to post anything if one feels upset. Or maybe just some guys should have rules. What about rules for criticizing ex colonial powers are verboten but criticizing countries that were colonized or should have been colonized is OK? That would make if fair eh?

Obviously business management / general labour / customer service skills are less developed in Thailand than in the West.

With this comes benefits (i.e.. many things are cheaper here) and opportunities (i.e. easy to compete with local businesses).

But I think we (westerners) have all (as consumers in Thailand) felt the OP's pain at some time... if you want to stay sane here, sometimes you just have to laugh at your own misfortune / frustration...

Yes it can seem that way at times... I also find that when Thai people serving foreigners don't understand what you're asking for the easy out is mai-mee.

I visit my local Global shop several times a month. There are always a few people there that can figure out what I want... my little bit of Thai and their little bit of English (with some song and dance) usually gets me what I came for. If nothing else (and the answer is still mai-mee) we've had some fun playing a bit of charades.

I often think that it Global would put me on as a sales person for foreigners and only paid me a percent of sales... I could really earn a nice little bit of beer money.

On the other side... I really don't know what these places don't employ a foreigner... once one does it they will all do it once they see the benefit!

oh well, 15 years ago in africa i once went to some shanty town "bar" where the "bartender" would jump on his bike an get me a beer from a store somewhere in the area... when i wanted a second beer off he drove again ;-) after that one i told him to buy a couple of bottles at once (cash upfront) ... I have had lots of work done around my house, extentions, additions, almost anything you care to name, and I have no comlaint about anything, and the pricing was good too. only last week, all the electricity in the house went off, the first time in eight years, this was about 11 pm. Mrs Possum got a man in to fix it within about 20 mins, job done, cost 300 Baht. Would that happen in a western country?

Out of 60 million of so Thais, how many generally lazy ones do you know personally? A couple of million? Five million? Ten?

Personally I'm always astonished that so many Thais with very little education and no specialist training manage to do what they do so reasonably well.

I call these underpaid (usually less than 300 baht a day) and overworked (six days a week is the norm) artisans "artful bodgers" -and I mean it in a complimentary, not derogatory way - for their ability to cobble together solutions to all sorts of seemingly intractable problems.

This can-do attitude, I have to say, is in sharp contrast to that of many of their better trained and educated European counterparts I was obliged to do business with before coming here.

It seems there is hardly anything Thai builders, plumbers, mechanics etc can't fix with just a hammer and a little imagination. I could probably even find one to sort out the obviously chronic problems with your cerebral blockages.

I hope you are not referring to me as trash, I say things as I see them. I will always complain about Thais behavior on the roads, but almost everything else about Thai people is positive IMO.

Why do you think, they have an estimated 2 mil Burmese living here , legally or not ?

To do the jobs they are too lazy to do, ring any bells.

Also they are smarter, more willing to help, build a better building for whatever and don't moan.

Look at the fat Thais going to school these days in Pattaya what are they going to do? live under mums apron i expect, they are too far down the road to the point of no return .

I always ask the Thai working in the area to help me find an item...in most cases...either no have...or look for 30 seconds and then no have...then I keep looking myself...most of the time...I can find what I want...this is Thailand...
