webfact
Prem doubts Suthep, Yingluck would listen to himThe NationBANGKOK: -- Privy Council President Gen Prem Tinsulanonda on Thursday expressed doubt that caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban would listen to him if he stepped in to try to mediate between both sides of the political conflict."Do you think they would listen to me?" Prem responded when asked by a reporter whether he would invite Suthep and Yingluck to talk. When the reporter insisted that Prem was loved and respected by both sides and no one would be able to mediate talks between the two, Prem replied: "I am being hit [by criticism] as well".Reporters approached the Privy Council president for comment when he chaired an opening ceremony of a project that allows 240 youths from five southern border provinces to spend nearly a month with foster families in 10 central provinces.Prem declined to comment on the political situation, saying only that he wished to see the media report in a way that benefited the country.-- The Nation 2014-04-10

True, true. Even the Yingluck coalition government included a general who had led a coup. But they are different. They represent the worst of Thailand. Prem recognizes that and realizes that the PTP listen only to Thaksin to talk with them would be a waste of time. On the other hand if he could disguise his voice and do it on Skype it would work. He also realizes that if he talks with Suthep he will be either agreeing with him or trying to talk him out of good ideas for the betterment of Thailand and it would serve no purpose. Pa Prem represents His Majesty the King and the welfare of Thailand! He also apparantly knows that the old ways and his own influence are defunct. He was widely accused of engineering the last coup. Whether he did or not, it failed to redeem the country. Could be argued that it made things worse. Thailand can now only lurch forward in hopes of achieving a new social/political/economic and cultural synthesis. I suspect that Pa Prem knows that, and that there are no quick fixes, even from him. --S

djjamie
the man has been associated with groups that have mounted coups and who have ruled Thailand by way of military dictatorship. Why refer to thaksin? And now you know that he has unfortunately been associated with groups that mounted coups what do you think about him? Or is that different because you barrack for his team and only the opposition can be demonized. This is an exception right? So someone accused of something overrides someone that was actually guilty of something. OR Because someone did something very bad on our team it is not so bad when compared to what someone else from the opposition potentially did worse. That is PTP logic right there. Think about it. webfact
POLITICSI can't broker talks: PremTHE NATIONPrivy council chief rules out mediation role; says political rivals won't listen to himBANGKOK: -- THAI POLITICS has reached such an unbreakable stalemate that even a highly charismatic senior figure like Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda admits he would not be able to mediate the dispute, as the conflicting parties would not listen to him.Calls by many groups in the country to have both sides negotiate to bring an end to the crisis, which is damaging the economy and the country's development opportunities, do not seem likely to pave the way for a compromise soon.Asked if the chief adviser to His Majesty the King could make the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) and the government sit together for talks, Prem replied: "Do you think they will listen to me?"I have never heard about this [a proposal to have him as a mediator] before, but only learned of this from you reporters," said Prem, after chairing a ceremony at the Army Club where he also made a speech calling for unity among Thai people.Asked if he could make Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and PDRC leader Suthep Thaugsuban enter negotiations because of his stature and the respect he commands, as they don't seem inclined to hold talks, Prem said: "I am no exception."The government and the PDRC are at odds on how to achieve their ends. The former wants to push ahead with an election as it believes Yingluck and her Pheu Thai Party will be returned to the power, while the protesters want the judicial branch to bring her down and install an unelected government.Asked about the possibility of him being a non-elected prime minister to oversee the much-anticipated political reform, Prem replied with only a smile.Prem was heard telling National Police chief Pol General Adul Saengsingkaew: "Be patient, and keep doing your job."Noppadon Pattama, legal adviser to former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, yesterday proposed the immediate holding of a general election in which all parties could propose reforms they seek as election promises, before a reform assembly is set up to seek councillors from all professions. This assembly would end after a term lasting six months to a year. A constitutional amendment would be made after a referendum approved it.Meanwhile, Democrat Party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut called on the public to ignore the ruling party, which he accused of supporting people who were against the monarchy, devising corruption-prone policies and demonising independent institutions, while rejecting rulings by the Constitutional Court. He praised civil servants at certain ministries who had welcomed visits by the PDRC.Yingluck defended herself against an allegation that she and her government were not accepting the legitimacy of the National Anti-Corruption Commission's rulings against her, saying she was only raising queries about its rulings and making her observations on them.Meanwhile, as tensions continued, the Centre for Administration of Peace and Order issued a warning against public gatherings by both sides, fearing possible violence during the Songkran holiday break, despite the PDRC announcement that it would not organise any marches or rallies during the five-day break. In a campaign to enlist more civil servants on its side, the PDRC visited an irrigation office in Pak Kret district of Nonthaburi yesterday and reportedly got a warm welcome from its leadership and staff.-- The Nation 2014-04-

It really seems like a huge exaggeration of both the charges and especially reality. 2010 was unfortunate. When the case finally makes it to court, Abhisit will walk free as there is no basis in fact for the charges (opinion I know). So think about reality and slow down on your own charges. Pre meditated murder. A joke.

On the other hand, he has no need to talk to Suthep because he has already told Suthep all he needs to know.
