Well, at least they didn't wait until the evening of the final working day before to tell us.

Again: they don't have to "tell" you.

Use a calendar as it is distribnuted here and get informed.

It's OK and a courtesy, that the "farang" media and forums give a reminder.

Do the offices in your home country announce: we are closed for Christmas?

Gotta love these guys defending an announcement that happens the day of the closing.

Seriously. Just don't post it at all if you're going to be this tardy.

Enjoy Songkran 2014 if you can.

Me and my family are planning to get wet this year, best way to avoid getting annoyed.

Just join the waterwagon.

but remember......stay safe!

best wishes 2014

"Well, at least they didn't wait until the evening of the final working day before to tell us."

A courtesy, perhaps.

Or maybe aimed at those customers who can't figure out on their own that the office will be closed on government holidays.

And including those whose Thai calendars do not show the 16th as any holiday whatsoever.

The information was posted two weeks ago here and making the effort to check government holidays shouldn't be too much of a burden Certainly you had to know Songkran was coming and it's your responsibility to figure out that you might need to do something at Immigrations. In what way is this being tardy? Just because you haven't seen something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

This Nanny State mentality and sense of personal entitlement is really sad.

As I wrote before. There is another topic that was posted about 2 weeks ago about the closure.

While it doesn't affect me at all, I don't believe the 16th is a National Holiday. I know a lot of places are including it as a holiday. It's good to let people know who might otherwise think it was going to be open. I would have assumed it would open on the 16th if I hadn't read otherwise. Of course, I would have checked their website or called them if I had serious business to take care of around a major holiday period like Songkran.

Exactly. Taking personal responsibility and doing a little planning ahead are fairly obvious adult characteristics, which begs a question or two for some of those who believe they needn't make any individual effort beyond blaming others.

From list of holidays I posted a download link for earlier.

13 April (Sunday) Songkran

14 April (Monday) Songkran

15 April (Tuesday) Songkran

16 April (Wednesday) Songkran Substitution Day

They can be found in this topic also Public Holidays 2014

Does anyone know if The Thai embassy in laos will also be closed? I checked on their website and it says closed for Monday 14th and Wednesday 16th.

I wanted to make sure for definite there weren't any other days closed but when I tried to call several times, it either wouldn't connect or I would get cut off.

It's okay that some online sources may list it as a holiday. However, I own 4 regular calendars and one additional one hangs on my wall. They all come from different sources, and I use them all for keeping track of different things. They are often given to me as gifts, so I do have many. I also have an application on my phone that lists all Thai holidays.

Of these sources I rely on for holiday information, only one lists the 16th as a holiday. That is my phone application. I also rely on the dates schools are open, as they are generally closed on any public holiday. For me, school is open as usual on the 16th. That would lead me to believe immigration would be open. As I said, I would have checked with them personally if I had important business myself.

The Thaivisa Calendar 2014 has shown it since the end of December as has the pinned topic. smile.png So don't blame TV entirely.

They will not be open until the 17th. The calender means 14th to the 16th.

According to their calendar, which is quite good and easy to understand, they're not closed on 15th April this year. It strikes me as odd that they would open on 15th April, then close on 16th April as a substitute day and then reopen again on 17th April.

I just assumed that they'll be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and not reopen again until Thursday, 17th April, just like the government offices in Thailand.

That is odd but it does show only the 14th and 16th as closed - http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/vientiane/en/embassy/embassy_time/

Can somebody please tell me if they've gone back to their proper offices at Cheng-Wattana, or are they still on the top floor of that Shopping Mall they moved to when the recent trouble started?

I think this has been covered to death in almost every single thread that comes up regarding any services offered by Bangkok Immigration. Chang Wattana is still closed.
