In the future, it should be mandatory for all air passage passengers to obtain mental certification, from government appointed mental institution before one is allowed to book an air-ticket and/or board the plane.

This would cut down on a lot of un-necessary disturbance for other fellow travelers.

Why was he so upset? Why did they have to transfer everyone to a different plane? Surely they could have led him away and then after sorting out the fuel wasted just taken off. Or am I missing something here?

The plane missed its take off slot and there was't another one available seems like a pretty good reason to me. I'm only guessing but it's a logical conclusion.

I'm sorry but what the actual hell?? They didn't press charges cos he had a ticket???

Let me guess, hi-so and connected then?

As other TV members know too well, I am seldom a Thai apologist.

However, this story brought back a few memories.

I once had a lovely girlfriend. Her father was a fireman. He suffered PTSD after seeing four children burnt to death. His condition was poorly managed by the treating doctors and a few months later he committed suicide by driving their family car at 180km per hour, the wrong way down an expressway. He had a fatal head on accident killing himself and the elderly couple in the other car. There was a media circus blamefest in the days that followed.

My girlfriend had a younger brother. At the time he was 22 years old, just like the lad in this story. He was a smart, likeable and well spoken lad. But, in the wake of his Dad's suicide, he suffered severe from spontaneous panic attacks.

He wanted to join the Army and after his application was accepted he was invited to do the medical tests. We lived in a rural area and he had to get a domestic flight down to the city. My girlfriend and I took him to the local airport were he boarded a small twin prop flight from one of the local carriers (probably 50 or so other passengers). Because it was a small rural airport my girlfriend and I could stand outside and watched her brother walk up the stairs and in to the plane. The door was then buttoned up, and, shortly thereafter, the plane taxied out to the runway. The plane revved up its engines ready to go and then powered down and turned and came back over to the stairway tower. The door was eventually opened back up and the pilot and co-pilot escorted my girlfriend's brother back to the terminal.

The poor lad just had the mother of all panic attacks and the pilot had to abort the takeoff for the safety of the other passengers.

In future every passenger must be checked about his mental stability before he is allowed to boarding a plane...

blink.png But, but ... then "they" will never let me go anywhere .....

Why so upset? Well...why? These days it is not absurd to consider that the crazy guy was aware or part of a plan to blow up or hijack the plane and he chickened out. I do not know what the officials' reason was for changing planes but they may have been thinking "why did this guy suddenly freak out and want so badly to get off the plane? Maybe we should inspect the craft."

Let me guess, you can't read? Charges were not made at the time because he was unstable and maybe mentally ill, not because he had a ticket.

Would you also care to guess then, at what course of action the authorities will pursue ?

Happened to one of my colleagues on a business travel last year. And he is a very frequent flier with at least 20 long haul flights out og Bangkok each year. He got some kind of a phobia or panic attack on a short hop flight from Lima to Panama and had to be offlanded and taken to a hospital for mental evaluation. Flew back 48hrs later and has been flying normally ever since. He has been meditating after that but no medications.

In the UK and I assume in many other countries many airlines offer help for those who have a fear of flying, I have a phobia of spiders and I am sure if I saw a lot of spiders crawling out the air ducts as soon as the plane started to taxi I would be banging on the door and shouting let me out of here...

There is no reason to smile on Thai Smile and plenty of reasons to go beserk!

I'm not a big guy at 1.82 cm length, but my legs don't fit between the chairs, than the crappy sandwich and no beer, so if any smile, it's rubbed of your face rapidly after boarding! I was very happy to get out, but could compose myself until after arrival.

They should carry thick gaffer tape, they the could of taped him to his seat and gagged him,no need for the flight to be aborted then,i beleive this is a regular occurence on holiday flights from the uk to spain on ryanair.

That's only cause you don't pay a quid for the toilet.

They may have decided to do a full search of the aircraft, just in case he had stashed something that might go BANG on board. They'd also need to get his checked luggage, if any out of the hold, for the same reason. That part would be simple enough but the Full Search would take a lot of time.

As for his reason....maybe the unsmiling, uppity cabin crew gave him the "whoops" and he wanted OFF. Wonder if the usual Black Paint was brought out to cover the logo?

His luggage too... As a security precaution everyone and everything needs to get off the plane. That's standard procedure.

Maybe you should be the first to be checked! I would suggest that most passengers would fail a test by the time they take their seats, Going through the hassle of flying now is enough to make anyone a raving lunatic!
