longstebe
Just a couple of questions, maybe someone has been in the same situation. Basically my car was stationary in traffic with approximately 4 or 5 cars in front of me in a U-turn lane. Suddenly I'm smashed into from behind. This happened in Udon Thani on the main road coming out of the city towards Sakhon just pass the railway tracks. The young lady who hit us hung around for 15 mins or so then decided to flee. In that 15 mins or so my wife was on the phone to the police and insurance, she also refused to pass her I.D or insurance details over. We waited for the police to arrive which was approximately 5 mins after the young lady decided to flee. We have her plate number make and model. So, what's our chances of getting her to pay for the damage. Bearing in mind she's done a fair amount of damage to my car. David48
My understanding is that your insurance will repair and chase the other driver ... but (thankfully) I have no first hand experience with this. What did the Police do with the car that rear-ended you?

Berkshire
An acquaintance of mine was involved in a hit-and-run. He had an accident with a motorcycle. He stopped to check the guy out, but didn't stick around for long. A few months went by and nothing happened. Then the police tracked him down and he was put through the ringer. A bystander had caught his plate number. So if you have the young lady's plate number, the police will track her down. Your insurance company will certainly be interested.

You have proof of the accident and the police are obliged to follow up as it is a traffic violation. They will also work out the negotiations between you and her for compensation. Should have the insurance agent there and if they offer their lawyer that would be good. My insurance agent supplied a lawyer to follow up on the civil action when the other party refused to admit fault. The court through their case out. Rollocks....I had the same in CM maybe 3 years ago. I stopped. The van behind me (driven by a monk) hit me, which pushed me into the car in front. Had photographs and licence details. The guy in front drove off, no damage. The monk hanged around for 5 mins then left. Left me with a damaged front and rear end. My insurance guy turned up. I went to police station, they did a report and that was the end of it. I was insured.....end of story as far as police concerned. The only concession I got was a waiver of the insurance excess because of the Police report. Premium shot up at renewal so moved insurance at renewal. And this was all done with my ex involved, who was as streetwise as they come! Don't hold your breath! Sent from my GT-I9300T using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app well it surely would have made it harder for her to pull away, assuming it was a busy turn lane, and it being thailand, there couldnt have been a lot of room behind her, so giving her 2 car lengths to pull away, was a no brainer for her

They would been around her in a second. I was picking a US guy up of the road a few weeks ago where the cars were driving around him on the highway while he was dead/injured on the road. Thankfully, he was not badly hurt. He was lucky not to have been driven over and yes have seen that before! Sent from my GT-I9300T using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app Just one more reason why there's no point in driving in thailand there is almost no place safe there to walk anyway It's safe as long as you are aware. In 6 years I've had one accident and I drive a truck and bike (bike 90% of the time) every single day in and around CM and regularly drive all over Thailand by truck. Not giving it the "big one" just telling it as it is. Walking is probably more dangerous! Driving/riding in Thailand is safe, as long as you are proficient and observant and ready for the unexpected. Just treat all other road users as though it was there first time on the road.....simple! Get to see a lot more as well!
