Looking For A Decent Kennel For My Dog For A Week

I will need to board my dog at a kennel for a week or so while I am gone. Can someone suggest a good one on the east coast anywhere?

Thanks!

Nope, only heard of one and that was because the dog had "disappeared" when the owner returned. Would recommend trying to get a friend to look after it instead.

Has anyone had any experience with the "K9 College" just south of Pattaya? The wife called them the other day and supposedly they board dogs for 390 baht /day which includes a walk but I haven't been there yet to check out the conditions.

Not for boarding but I went there with my dogs some time ago thinking it would be a dog training camp like I know them from Europe (i.e. you meet with you dog for an hour or two of training once or twice a week) ... but no, they take the dog away and you get it back after two weeks being able to do anything including bringing you a cold beer and slippers (according to the guys there).

Apart from the price (I don't recall the precise price but it was a lot, something like 15,000 baht) I would be worried leaving my dogs behind like that, brr.

The wife said when she talked to them it was around 17000 baht for 4 months!!! and you could come and get the dog for a week each month. That seems pretty exteme to me! after 4 months he better be able to brew his own beer!

We booked our dog into Dog Paradise for two nights @ B250 per night. They are located not far from the night club 999 that burned down a few weeks back. Here is their number: 038 414263.

Also I copied this number from the back of a pickup truck. Phayu Kennel 01 175-5080. I haven't called them but they may offer boarding.

Thanks for the info Spaniel...by the way how were the conditions at "Dog Paradise?" I have to leave for about 10 days and I REALLY don't want to leave him stuck in a nasty cage for the whole time... :o

I have to fly out of BK so if there is a good one someone can suggest between Pattaya and BKK I would greatly appreciate it and "Poompuy" our dog even more so!

Dog Paradise is located in a shop house and the dogs are kept in the back in either pens or cages. In the front they sell pet food, supplies etc. The place is clean and the people friendly and they claim they take your dog out for a walk daily. When you decide on a place, if it's not Dog Paradise, post the info as we are always on the lookout for alternatives to DP.

As it was the kings 60th year to assention we couldn't get into town the othe day to check out the other kennel. suggested...but we did check out K9 college. The dogs had a run...about 3 meters by 2 feet or so and they were all in their own run....the dogs that were there on the 4 month training "visa" seemed to be in better "digs"......luck would have it our neighbor was wiling to watch the mutt while we were gone..........so Madsere's advise ruled out!! I fully agree with him the kennel is a terrible place for the faithfull family friend for more than a day or 2! :o

There's a K9 way out past Horseshoe point. I went there a few months ago to get my Golden trained. Apart from the price and the fact that they wanted to keep the dog there for weeks, I didn't like the look of the place at all. Just got very bad vibes. I reckon it must cater for very rich Thais who buy expensive breeds to impress their friends, and don't really give a shit about the welfare of the dog.

My golden is still pretty much untrained, but she obeys me - more or less- and is adorable, so I don't care. I shudder at the idea of leaving her anywhere near a Thai kennel. Individual Thais are compassionate animal lovers, but I don't trust anyone over here who wants to make money out of pets in this way.

They are as unregulated as property developers and estate agents :D

That's exactly what I do. Good for house security too.

Actually dog training is not rocket science. Maybe a couple of dog owners could meet up once or twice a week somewhere in the Pattaya area for dog training. Just an idea that could be built upon if anyone interested.

There seems to be a lot of dog lovers in Pattaya. I see them in soi7/8, when I cut through to the beach sometimes. :o

I thought they mainly hung out near the "library" on soi 6 ? :D

I did something like that yonks ago in England on cold wet Sunday mornings. I quite enjoyed it, but unfortunately I then had a virtually untrainable cross breed terrier.

I've bought 3 training books, and it all looks perfectly straight forward, but somehow I don't seem to have the discipline, or the patience to do it properly. It's a pity, because unlike that terrier, my current dog almost trains herself, bless her. :D

I'm up for some group sessions, if anyone else is interested. :o
