I need Windows 7 drivers

I went to a computer store on the top floor of Pantip, bought a computer for my wife, and the little rat lied to me. He said it would take both windows 7 and windows 8 It doesn't.

I installed windows 7 pro on an Asus laptop, but I can't get it to work. I've researched this online and it seems to be difficult to fix.

Before I have a heated showdown with the management of this IT store, in the CITY of Bangkok, located in Pantip Plaza, does anyone have a fix?

What is the model number of the ASUS laptop?

What is not working under Windows 7... IE what drivers do you need?

Thanks for your reply. I've never had this problem before so I'm not certain what info is needed to fix it.

The model number is X451C

It's been a few weeks since I have powered up this computer, as I have been busy. I do remember getting a message about the drivers being windows 8 and I have installed a legal version of windows 7 pro

Is there anything you can share about this particular model that could help?

OP, You saw my post HERE and I was out of luck. Many mass manufacturers are building for Win 8 and see no need to provide drivers for their new hardware for Win 7. They just aren't there.

Just for the sake of clarity, after you bought the usb recovery stick you still couldn't get windows 7 to work?

No. The recovery stick wiped the drive and put back the original partitions including the recovery partition.

There are no drivers for Win 7 for my new Toshiba Laptop.

Thanks Crossy! If I could get you to teach me how to install a water heater, I'll have my wife make you a cheesecake! thumbsup.gif I'm not big on cold showers and I've read the horror stories about bad installs.... A utube video?

Rogue- if it has been several weeks as you say, then the store isn't going to talk to you. They will fob you off to ASUS support / warranty service.

The computer manufacturer may not provide the drivers, but I have had some successes by going directly to the chipset / internal hardware manufacturer website to find a driver for Win 7.

Save the pain, install W8, add ClassicShell, QED.

This is probably going to be the correct and easiest answer. In fact, it is probably going to be what ASUS support will tell you.

When I migrated to Windows 8, I adapted to it quickly enough. I got used to the Metro interface. However, a friend of mine was complaining about it, so I downloaded and installed Classic Shell to see what it was all about and how to do for my friend. It will give you back the complete Windows 7 style experience. I've ended up keeping it on my PC.

People in general have been dropping back to windows 7. You will find plenty of drivers just by googling.

There are many programs (free trials) to automatically search your system and download the drivers. Some will install, but you can manually install from there.

Store all your driver installers

Driver magic? on a usb thumb drive ...you will need them.

Also...Linux Cinnamon distro s an easy install and works very similar to windows...usually drivers are already present.

ready to go...and free. you can leave windows on and also use Cinnamon as a backup when (not if) windows goes tits up.

Yes. The recovery stick I bought put it back to where the factory had it. Win 8 Pro, drivers, recovery partition, and it was even validated when I booted it.

The recovery USB memory stick has an image, and I set the bios to boot from USB and the image installed in about 10 minutes with no intervention from me after the first two stop screens asked if I wanted to boot from USB and warned me that it would wipe my whole hard disk.

Edit: PS I soon after got 8.1 as a normal Windows update and it changed some settings on my computer but easy to reset. Same drivers seem to work.

And yes it's 64 bit so I have 6 gig of ram - plenty for a laptop.

PSS after installing classic shell, I like Win 8 and 8.1.

A big disadvantage is that it no longer has a scheduler to make a backup image of your %system% drive. Why, I don't know. You can still do it manually, but the scheduled backup is worthless. I use Cobian Backup scheduled every night, and make an image about once a week.

On my Win 7 machines I get a Cobian Backup at 1:00 AM, and a new image at 2:00 AM every day.

While laptops can be picky with drivers requiring certain drivers from the laptop's manufacturer to work properly or makes available some special features that problem has faded quite a bit over the years. However, it does seems the video and Wifi chip drivers can be the most picky on some laptops.

For example, over the last few days I loaded Win 7 Home Premium on my 8 (eight) year old Toshiba laptop (a 2006 model) with only a Celeron CPU and 2GB of RAM (actually it only shows 1.5GB RAM), and a 100GB hard drive....the laptop originally came with XP. This computer serves as my backup computer in case my primary laptop goes down. I prepared by first downloading from the Toshiba support website the drivers/utilities for it....the last batch of drivers/utilities were for Visa...no Win 7 or Win 8/8.1 drivers/utilities. Toshiba usually stops providing update drivers/utilities for their laptops after the laptop is 3 years old and my laptop reached the 3 year old point back in 2009. Ok, I now have those dozen of so drivers/utilities on my USB thumb drive in preparation to install them right after the Win 7 install completes. I stick in the Win 7 disk, do a Clean install, it goes successfully, everything is working on the laptop. I DID NOT load any of the manufacturers drivers/utilities. I then loaded Office 365 (Office 2013) suite of software, Norton 360 firewall/antivirus, Adobe Reader, Java, scanner software, and just a variety of other software. I still haven't installed any of the laptop driver/utilities from the Toshiba support website. Everything is working fine with absolutely no need to load any of the manufacturers drivers/utilities because I figure Win 7 has already incorporated those Toshiba drivers....and I don't plan to load any of the drivers/utilities. Well, I might load some of the "utilities" later on which are not really drivers, just Toshiba written software to make use of their computers a little easier.

i admit to not having seen the other thread or read all of this one, but i had that problem with a new acer laptop i purchased recently, and while windows and acer did not have the chipset or video drivers available i was able to get them from the vendor's site (intel and nvidia) directly. maybe you tried that as well, but just thought i would throw it out there.

Can you go to Control Panel ?

click on Devise Manager, everything with no driver should show in a yellow triangle with !

click on it and then click right and one option is Install driver, do the same on all the others, also options to update drivers, roll back and so on.

personally i would never trust any unverified 3rd party driver providers, particularly in an enterprise environment. there are lots of driver download sites out there that are riddled with malware.

and regarding ignis' post above, it is not always quite that simple. as someone already stated, sometimes microsoft and computer vendors do not provide drivers for older operating systems on new hardware. when this happens you have to work a little harder. if you go into device manager and select the offending device, click on the details tab and select hardware ids you will find a string something like this - PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_074A1025. you then copy that string into a google search which will give you links to sites such as driveridentifier.com or driversdownloader.com (2 sites which i would never download from but usually give you the accurate hardware info). then you can go to the vendor site (in this example realtek) and search there for the proper driver (in this case for the PCIe GBE Family ethernet Controller )

I think you should have installed windows 8 but whatever version you have if you do not have the skills to search and update all the drivers yourself it could be worth spending a little to install a driver update app which usually will do the job for you.

If you have patience windows update will usually find them eventually but it can be a slow process.
