Popular Post Jonathan Fairfield
Thailand Post told to 'go raise buffaloes' Bangkok:-- Have you ever tried sending a letter with the specific appeal to the postie of “Do not fold” written in big letters on the envelope? Ever noticed that, while the rest of your post arrives perfectly flat and intact, it is always that one letter which gets folded? Well, a Thai man’s outrage at just such an incident, vented on a YouTube video last weekend, has forced Thailand Post to respond by personally apologising to the recipient. Abhisit Samsanguan was sent a photo of a monk – a gift with significant sentimental value – which was posted with the words “Don’t Fold” written large and clearly in Thai. Despite this warning, the A4 sized envelope was delivered with a neat fold right down the middle, damaging the enclosed photograph. In his video, which has been viewed more than 72,000 times, Khun Abhisit accused Thailand Post of being illiterate and suggested that those responsible should return to their hometowns to raise buffaloes. Thailand Post responded by personally visiting Khun Abhisit and hand-delivering a pristine new photograph of the monk. They have also warned their employees at the Lak Si post office in Bangkok over the incident. cooked
Our postie decides what he should deliver or not and has been seen holding foreign envelopes up to the sun to work out what might be in there. (? Because it's not for nothing that Thai envelopes are made of horrible thick stuff) Sent from my GT-S7500 using Tapatalk 2
Nickymaster
If the image is so important it should have been packed properly. Even when it wouldn't have been folded, it would still be wrinkled due to the way it is packed. Attention seeking drama queen. The guy must be perfect himself. Popular Post selftaopath
Have they also warned their employees not to steal packages send from abroad, or letters with replacement credit cards? "Amen brother" I'd like to know the answer to that very real/significant question. I recently ordered an item from eBay. It was delivered, which prompted me to order two more items. They have no made it "through enemy lines." Guess I just "lost my head" and became confident with the success of the initial purchase. NEVER - well probably not lol - again. Sorry I have absolutely NO confidence in the Thai postal service.

Sorry I have absolutely NO confidence in the Thai postal service. Knock on wood but I've never had problems with Thai Post. I order a lot of stuff from Amazon and from Hong Kong and they've always made it through. Countless orders over the years and no problems so far. One thing I love about Thai Post is that they actually deliver EMS items on SUNDAYS also. I mean even DHL and Fedex don't do that. Bad luck for those who have had bad experience but for me, they're pretty good.
Kerryd
I've had 1 credit card and 2 International Driving Permits get "lost" in the mail, so far. I've also had 1 credit card and 1 I.D.P. successfully delivered to my address as well over the same period. The credit card that made it actually sat untouched in my land-lady's laundry shop for almost 2 months until I got back on my next rotation. Checking the rates in Thailand, it looks like you'd pay about $40 US (1,250 THB) to ship an envelope at the minimum rate (from Afghanistan the minimum fee, for up to .5 kgs, is $75 US). By comparison, 2 weeks ago I mailed 6 letters to Canada through Thai Post and it cost me 290 baht. Personally I'd prefer using DHL (or the equivalent) for the important stuff, it's convincing the people/organizations on the other end to use them that's usually the problem, even if I'm willing to pay. I've dealt with with various groups over the past few years, some of whom won't ship via courier companies. Some will only use regular post. Some prefer this shipper over that one and if "that" one can't ship to your area, sucks to be you ! Some shippers themselves won't ship certain items to/from certain destinations either. For example, DHL won't ship anything declared as "dangerous goods" from Afghanistan to Australia, but will ship the exact same item from Australia to Afghanistan ! FedEx will ship the same item either way, but have a nasty habit of forgetting to tell the customer that their shipments have arrived (or deliver them to the wrong place).

Too stingy to pay the extra cost. I would appreciate your suggestion as to where one can find "appropriate packaging" for mailing photographs. I have searched all the main stationers for board backed envelopes to no avail. Mind you even the post in the UK were not adverse to folding such envelopes even though they had DO NOT BEND printed on the front. The only solution I have found here is to make a 'sandwich' with glassine paper and cut corrugated plastic sheets to size before popping in a brown envelope. I'm all for posts taking greater care with the post.

Too stingy to pay the extra cost. The first two words look ideally self descriptive for you. Usual knobby know it all smart arse remark. You are quick to belittle the guy for complaining about very poor service. Of course a smart western gent like your good self would have arranged suitable protective packaging or even a courier. The arrogance and patronizing attempts at wit by belittling Thais, and other Asians by some western "geniuses" displays that in-built colonial style belief of their superiority. What a fitting avatar you have chosen.
