Well apparently he's been a good student and deserves whatever accolades accompany that and I add mine to those...but... The headline doesn't read

PARIT WACHARASINDHU - first Thai to lead top Oxford society why not...? ...and indeed is a year old.. It reads Abhisit's nephew..

so we get the point right...Keep that name associated in the press with something good... politicking at it's finest well done Kuhn Abhisit ( sarcasm)

You seem to suggest that k. Abhisit somehow is involved in getting the article published at this moment. I guess that involvement would also include the info being shared on facebook since a few days (as a member mentioned)?

Next we've get the inside information that the anti-Abhisit rant on young Oaf's facebook page was actually setup and hacked into facebook by a pro-Abhisit fanclub (like the Facebook Abhisit Boys 5)

LOL your dreaming there... I would never suggest that but yes I do believe that this was intentional..as I said why post an article that pertains to something over a year ago and instead of using the principles name in the headline they use the Uncle's name... to what end ? Makes no journalistic sense does it..? the association makes sense..given the current machinations but it just struck me as a bit......odd.

and the mother of the young chap is a sister of Abhisit. So if Suranand is a cousin of Abhisit, that means he's an uncle once removed?

As the articles only mention the young chap didn't want to discuss politics while here, I guess we'll not know which of the two uncles he prefers democratically speaking.

Also it read

Abhisit's nephew 'Itim' first Thai to lead top Oxford society so the "to lead part like a future tense thing didn't strike me as right since it happened a year ago so hence my conclusion.. Gotta go Cheers!

Is he actually Thai or English?

I should think that having Thai parents and being born in Thailand would make him a Thai. Wouldn't you?

Like Mark, both Thai & British.

"Like Mark, both Thai & British."

Well, NO,considering that Abhisit was born in Newcastle on Tyne U.K. we all know he has or is entitled to dual citizenship.

You might , by your logic, consider the most revered man in the Kingdom to be an American?

However unless young Parit was born in the U.K., I think your comment is naive. He is 100% bona fide, extra fragrant, super Thai.

Stop embarrassing yourself.... I know the facts... I was replying to your question why reported so late.

He obviously hasn't been bragging about it, or it would have made news at the time.

That is why he's different to most Thais, he obviously has masses of integrity and sees no value in bragging and boasting.

This just shows that the family's discretion and integrity are light years ahead of anything from the red camp which are all blow- and gob sh-ites.... like you.

Just a thought but I wonder if a Thai farmer's son could become this if he ever got the luck to be so priviliged to study abroad..... Who said "we are all equal.." can't remember it!!

No reason, except money. Perhaps uncle moneybags Thaksin could arrange an endowment for a few special scholarships for dirt farmers sons.

After all the world has been slightly influenced by dropout bums like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Mark Zuckerberg, Roman Abramovich, Albert Einstein & Ralph Lauren.

Yes and Mr Abhisit's father is also an independent director on the board of Charoen Pokphand (CP Group) the Ceo of which is the wealthiest billionaire in Thailand ... tops the Forbes list...always good to follow the money... (guessing we could take it to Hong Kong)

OK let's take a guess................................................................................ from his facebook page,

Well that is (or was the question), like his uncle he was schooled in Eton and then went onto Oxford. You know his uncle, former PM of Thailand, is English and was born in Newcastle, right?

Future political battles with Mr. Oak - kicked out of one Thai uni and caught cheating at Ram - will be painful.

While I personally think that this family should be the one in government, I have to accept that democracy is a fundamental right. Isn't a pity that the populace are so un-Worldly and uneducated to vote this country into the current millenium. :(

Just responding to the hagiography on here and offering a suggestion as to why this year old "story" has only just made the news.

Interestingly enough his new cover photo (changed April 25th) on his facebook page has received just the one comment from a certain Wichar Thitiprasert.

This chap is the Director, Agriculture Requlatory Office, Department of Agriculture and a regular PDRC supporter with strong views on reforms of "lizards" and policemen on his facebook page. I think you can guess who the lizard references are about. Quite outspoken for a civil servant of the government he is insulting.

Oh, and the comment about abhisits nephew?

A farmer's son that I know attended our local Russell Group university on a Thai government scholarship a few years ago. He got his Masters and PhD before going back to Thailand to teach at university there. I've known quite a few poor Thais who've studied here and gone back to work in Thailand in all sorts of roles.

There are some really sad comments from some even sadder individuals on here. You'd think that seeing a Thai being respected by his international peers would be a pleasant change and something to be appreciated and cherished by everyone, even the most parochial posters on here. .

God knows the kingdom has become a laughing stock abroad with a leader who cries crocodile tears, a pretender who wants to rule the country by himself and another who already does and thanks to Parit we can see that there are some Thais out there who do have something more about them after all.

nepotism and wealthy elite status got him where he is nothing about personal achievement .yet another wealthy elite to trample over the faces of the proles when he gets his turn

Aren't you confusing him with the son of that other well known Thai politician whose name escapes me.

If he'd achieved this in Thailand I'd have agreed with you but this is Britain.

Enjoy your sour grapes and change that tired old record whilst you're at it.... there's a good chap!

edit typo!

Run of the mill achievement young man anyone could do this according to GK, had it been Yinglucks son it would have been a sensation eh! GK.

Apart from the "congratulation" from you your post is to tread the honour down as if it is nothing.

Well done young Thai man good for Thailand and it's image, different to image that was portrayed over the last 3 years in government.

It is nothing in the world of academia. Oxford has almost 300+ clubs, societies and sports groups. Look, it's nice that he got the job. Good for him.

What's his role in the Thai Society? Did you even know that's one of the clubs because there are apparently quite a few Thais at the Oxford schools.

I don't understand why some people are creaming their pants in excitement. Oxford has a Quidditch club, a Real Ale Society, and a Doctor Who Society. Each of these societies has big events too. Why not make a fuss when someone is elected president for the semester of those clubs?

You did not go to university so you may have difficulty understanding that these debating societies are more dedicated to partying and boozing it up than anything else. It's just that the folks at Oxford have a nicer place to consume their booze, and they do it with refined elegance, until some wastrel pukes in the cloakroom. The Oxford Union benefits from corporate sponsorship and you can be assured that in any commercial undertaking there is product positioning. If you are impressed, ok. I'm not, and I doubt anyone who has attended Oxford would be turning cartwheels with excitement either. That doesn't mean he isn't a good person or not intelligent.

You are right about the hypothetical case of Yingluck's boy. He's under 11 years old and had he obtained the job for the semester, I'd have been impressed. It would be extraordinary for a kid that age to be able to hold his liquor as do the reprobates of old Oxie.

You are seriously clutching at straws even though you lost your argument in amazing style even after your first incredibly jaundiced and cynical view.... for no other reason than you are in support of a corrupt government and a prime minister that would need to read the instructions 3 times before negotiating the blowing up of a balloon.

Just to show you how popular your words on here are, I took the time to count the likes, as that is a good indicator of what the majority of members gauge the credibility and integrity of a person's posts.... The 'like' score system may be seen as some as just something to allow some members to massage their ego.... But it is also a good indicator of how much quality a member's forum contributions are.

You made 5 posts so far in this thread and score 0 likes.

Posts in opposing replies to your ramblings have amounted to 22 (at the time of typing and rising)

Does that tell you anything?......

Because it tells me that today. you are as about as popular as a fart in a spacesuit.

The debating skils of TVF will beat Oxford any day. Ha

Are there really still people who are pretendig that Yingluck is the one receiving negative coverage in the international press? I follow Thai news pretty closely and I've never seen anyone say anything bad about her in English language news outside of The Nation. Your boy Mark however isn't quite as lucky, and commonly gets called a murderer or a dictator for his actions from 2008-2010, to the point that he seems to of stopped giving interviews to English media as of late. Much of the ones he gave trying to justify the protests didn't govery well for him.

"He's a real fighter."

Hey GK ! I can't work out where this is, now what was it you said, the Oxford Quidditch club....? The Real Ale Society? or the Doctor Who club? It kinda looks slightly better than that.

fabby it is quite funny how you spend your day cross-referencing to various facebook pages to try and find anything for you to load on to your outrage bus. It is soooooo sad that you and GK and others dis this young man...over what? I don't like this story because of Abhisit or the Dems or yellows, I am honestly not interested. I like this story because a young Thai lad has taken full advantage of the opportunity that he was given, and has worked his nuts off at the best and most demanding educational institutions in the UK to be recognized by his peer group as being a good egg. I would be right chuffed if my son does this, I would even be chuffed if one of your kids did it fabby! "fabby" I would say, "bloody well done to you and your son". That is called unconditional praise for achievement, do you even know what that is?

To be perfectly honest it took about 5 minutes "research". I'm not dissing him for his "achievement", I don't know where you got that idea from.

He is as much a media luvvy as Panthongtae (but Panthongtae is in that business, so he has an excuse) - we all know how much praise and love is spread towards him.

However when posters like woopy doo come up with statements like it's not as if he's bragging about it, I find it hard to reconcile that with the truth.

One look at his facebook page reveals that he has just (April 25th) changed his cover photo to the above. The first entry since his birthday on December 10th. How many 21 year olds would leave that big an interval in their facebook jottings without telling the world what they had done every day? And why now, a year after the event?

BANGKOK, April 25 -- Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said he would meet representatives from varied groups to find mutually agreeable solution to bringing the country out of its political crisis.

One of the comments from "Popsicle" (yes that is is his nickname) is that he would like more privacy, yeah right.
