Leeds teacher murder: boy, 15, in custody after Anne Maguire stabbed to death

LEEDS: -- Pupil, who cannot be named for legal reasons, arrested on suspicion of murder after Anne Maguire was repeatedly stabbed in front of other pupils at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds

A high-achieving middle-class schoolboy was in custody on Monday night after a teacher was stabbed to death in the first murder of its kind in a British classroom.

The 15-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested on suspicion of murder after Anne Maguire was repeatedly stabbed in front of other pupils at a secondary school in Leeds.

The pupil is said to have excelled at the Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds but had become increasingly withdrawn following the separation of his parents.

Mrs Maguire, 61, who taught Spanish and Religious Education and was described as the “figurehead” of the school where she had taught for 40 years, was the first teacher to be killed by a schoolboy since Philip Lawrence, a London headmaster, was stabbed at the gates of his secondary in 1995.

Feel very sorry for the teacher and her family.

Also feel sorry, for the young boy, that probably will spend the rest of his life in a mental Asylum.

It matters not whether this "boy" is deranged or just a low life criminal. He must and will be , incarcerated for the protection of others!

You feel sorry for him? He couldn't exercise a little restraint. To hell with him.

I'm sorry, but I don't. Way too much emphasis is placed on wrongdoers over there. He is only 15, yes, but is old enough to know what he was doing and should be dealt with accordingly. He likely has head issues, which is sad, but at the end of the day who is the victim?

Thing is, he and his family will now get all the care and attention available, to the extent of being mollycoddled. School kids literally get away with murder in the UK!

RIP

No worries there, there aren't any in the UK, all were closed in the 1970s and 1980s. Most likely eventual destination will be somewhere like Broadmoor Hospital, which is a specialist service that provides assessment, treatment and care in conditions of high security for men from London and the south of England; there must an equivalent up north.

There is it is called Man United Football club

What no knife laws.....RIP to the Teacher

The UK has quite draconian knife laws regarding buying, carrying and having knives in your possession.

So if I wanted to buy a kitchen knife set there in the UK I would have to some how qualify to buy them? I think knives should be completely outlawed along with guns, cars, roller skates and anything else that might hurt / kill someone.

Catholic college. What do you know about Catholic school? Inner violence (some catholic schools in Thailand already gave an example) in

Catholic schools and institutions are a big problem.

In a crazy system a boy get crazy. You have to see the totality before you condemn.

From memory: no blade can be carried above 3 inches. But I think that one has gone too.

Any crime where a knife is used is treated as a deadly weapon and the sentence is inreased accordingly.

Out side inner city London immigrant youth gangs, people just don't [generally] carry knives.

First teacher to die in class - in British history

More teachers worldwide face increased violence.

Parents/society - take more responsibility!

Who knows what finally triggered him to carry out his threats...

no one believed him - cos he's just a mixed up kid, that went way too far...

What no knife laws.....RIP to the Teacher

Don.t forget...pantyhose...condoms...and sexual toys...all weapons which should be regulated to insure public safety...

Dont worry, the anti corporal punishment left wing liberal new age parents will be along in a minute to let us know this sicko was just expressing himself.

The social workers will be along in a minute to let us know its not his fault he didnt have a wendy house as a kid, then try and guilt trip us into believing its society as a wholes problem.

Stick this sicko in Rampton.

Even better give him a uniform and send him to the frontlines in Afghanistan.

Not exactly relevant but this is not the first time, it happened at my school about 38 years ago probably should not say which one, but in this case I seem to remember the husband came into the school and stabbed the teacher in front of all the children!

catholic schools can be very different. They also tend to attract spinster teachers many of whom are very likely lesbian, and some of them seem to get off on power complexes and pick on some of the kids, in my experience.

Catholic schools by nature tend to be anti-freedom of speech especially when it comes to biblical matters. Unfortunately though this autocracy tends to permeate the whole school culture and further fuels an environment of powr and bullying.

A mental institution? A speedy judgement of the boy's mental state, which has yet to be properly assessed. And past experience would suggest that various members of the do-good brigade, supported by the likes of social services - who are more adept at finding mitigating circumstances in these situations than they are at assessing at-risk children - will be shedding tears, along with making pleas, more for the aggressor than for the victim.

Good grief, are you listening to yourself? A woman teacher - whom, I should point out, was apparently well liked by many pupils, and ex-pupils - has been murdered by a fifteen year old boy, and you seem to be intent on making a link with lesbianism.

Plenty of them... but in the UK people use them as utensils at home too.

I don't think this is some punk kid, it sounds like a mental issue and it could have been worse if a guns was available.

It's all very sad.

From reading this article in the Independent newspaper about the problem generally in the UK, it seems to me that what is inflaming the situation is that the parents have effectively swapped sides.

When was in school and a teacher reprimanded you or even went as far as inflicting physical punishment, I can't think of any parent who wouldn't have said well you must have deserved it. But now teachers are threatened with this kind of language.....

Mr Newland said: “Where I’ve had issues with the threat of violence is not with kids but from the parents... I’ve had parents literally say to me ‘you do that and I’m going to beat you to a pulp’ and I had no doubt that actually on the occasions that it happened these people were barely on the edge of self-control.”

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/education/schools/ann-maguire-killing-teachers-across-britain-reveal-horrifying-tales-of-classroom-violence-9303146.html

They talk about increasing use of distance learning and use of technology for education purposes. So let these unruly kids do that instead. Let's see how much self-discipline they've got to apply themselves that way and see how far they advance academically and in the workplace later .rolleyes.gif

As a society we have totally lost the plotcrazy.gif
