Skype cameras for Samsung smart TV- Where to buy in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Any ideas, other solutions?

Thanks

You don't have the Smart TV with the camera built in then?

Have you checked the documentation for your Samsung?

No, skype included as an app, requires camera and mic as an addition. Wondering where I can buy in Thailand as the major stores I have been to have no idea.

What is the model number of the Samsung?

I'd suggest googling that with either the words Camera , Skype or Accessories.

In order for your Smart TV to host an add-on device the specific class of software driver has to be previously included (baked-in) as part the firmware. Searching 'Accessories' compatible with your TV model should be a good place to start.

Those things were expensive when I looked in the US 2 years ago. Like $150. Probably double that in Thailand since they have the import tax on electronics. Though maybe the price has come down since then.

It was so expensive, that I could almost buy an Xbox with Kinect. Except I already had one, and since Kinect acts as the camera and mic for Skype on Xbox, didn't have to buy anything.

Maybe try the Samsung website. It'll usually point to stores you might be able to buy accessories at. Though I think they just classify by retailers that sell any TV accessories, so still takes a phone call or visit.

I ordered one from the local Samsung Service Centre.

It arrived in 2 days and cost about 2,000 baht.

Local retailers had offered to get me one but the price was more than 3,000 baht.

The additional benefit is that you now have hand-recognition remote control. so that every time anyone moves their hand all of your TV settings change.

Personally I use Skype on my tablet or laptop. The picture quality is better and Skype has more functionality than the Smart TV app.

IMHO, the only advantage of the Smart TV setup would be if you need a group, like a whole family, to chat from the comfort of the lounge-room sofa.

Cheers

Good point, will consult the Samsung service centre, and you are bang on the money with the family on the sofa when I am away working,

thanks for the tip.

Eventually got to the service centre in Silom, ordered one which will come in 3 days. Surprising part was that when comparing prices on Ebay the cost from Samsung @ 2000 THB was significantly cheaper.
