CAPO believes peace will be restored soon

BANGKOK, 1 May 2014 (NNT) – The Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO)’s chief advisor said that he believes political stability would be restored soon, as the date of the general election has been scheduled. He has also vowed to take serious action against protestors who obstruct the election.

Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, in his capacity as the CAPO chief advisor, has proposed that a committee be set up to facilitate the upcoming general election, after the Election Commission had concluded to hold the next poll on July 20th.

Surapong said that he is especially concerned about 28 southern provinces beyond the jurisdiction in which the Internal Security Act is being enforced. The security center director vows to enforce the law more strictly to take action against those who obstruct the upcoming election.

Surapong also called on the Democrat Party to make a decision on whether or not to field candidates in the upcoming general election, in accordance with its stated intentions in its campaign to hold talks with all political sides.

Meanwhile, Police Captain Chalerm Yoobamrung, as the CAPO Director, said that he would continue to monitor the protestors’ movements. He said that he believes all sides will participate in the general election, after the government and the Election Commission had reached a conclusion. The director also believes the election will proceed smoothly, as long as the armed forces give its full cooperation.

So if the elections dont proceed smoothly he can blame the armed forces now for not giving their full cooperation

The momentum is shifting, some of the yellow shirt protesters are starting to wake up and realize that an election is the only way forward.

There will still be a few nutters willing to oppose the shins down to the last dying gasp, and they are entitled to their opinion.

Most people however are tired of democracy being held hostage by this nutter fringe group and want the country to move on.

" Surapong said that he is especially concerned about 28 southern provinces beyond the jurisdiction in which the Internal Security Act is being enforced. "

First of all, Surapong need not be concerned about the presence - or lack of it - of the Internal Security Act. It hasn't had an once of effectiveness anywhere it's been applied. What Surapong is worried about is whether those 28 constituencies will have registered candidates - although it's an odd time to start thinking about now, after announcing the crisis has already past and peace and political stability will be restored soon once again. After all, as far as he and Chalerm are concerned - everything's in the bag - the election, everybody's participation, and a peaceful, orderly and successful election. Why ? Because Yingluck met the EC on Wednesday. So it's all set, you see. Chalerm assures us everybody will be contesting. And everything will go smoothly. Absolutely no mention of Abhisit's discussions with party leaders or his own astonishing personal offer. Exactly what planet does Chalerm inhabit ? And has Surapong woken up from his deep sleep yet ?

The south may defeat the government without Sutheps help , good theory Scamper, there is no love lost there.

Where exactly isn't it peaceful now? Perhaps they are thinking about the scheduled monk beater, crap thrower rally scheduled for Bangkok.

Hardly. Chalerm wants the Police to take back all security now. Why only now???? Why not when the nightly attacks on the protesters were going on. Why, when the only time they managed to arrest anyone was when they had army with them & couldn't look the other way?

He has also vowed to take serious action against protestors who obstruct the election.

Would that include any one who tries to prevent parties in opposition from doing their thing in the north or northeast ?

Or only those protesting against PT or attempting to disrupt the polling ?

Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul, in his capacity as the CAPO chief advisor, has proposed that a committee be set up to facilitate the upcoming general election, after the Election Commission had concluded to hold the next poll on July 20th.

So he now wants to set up a committee to facilitate the election.

Sure I read not long back that he was saying it was the job of the EC to run the elections, now he wants to set up a committee to take over their job.

The director also believes the election will proceed smoothly, as long as the armed forces give its full cooperation.

As has already been noted, it would be the military's fault if things do not go smoothly.

Not the fault of PT insisting on a quick election (again) the EC or the committee that they will set up to do the EC's job.

Conclusion : Must have an election and no mention of reforms of any sort and if its a stuff up again it is the fault of the military.

Wonder how much CAPO will claim as a budget to keep them going for the next 2 months, another 4 billion ?

It;'s over 11 weeks. Must be good for 20 or 30 billion. Price of Mama noodles just went up.

Hasn't Thailand got a police force? There I was always thinking that it's the police force's job to maintain the law.

So Surapong also wan't a committee to supervise the election. Would that be under the wonderful CAPO who did so much to help make the last election effort a resounding success?

Those CAPO people must be overwhelmed with preparing all the statements that they come out with. Thailand's Ministry of truth.

So he wants to have the army at the election boots and CAPO with him as member of the Shinawatra clan supervising the elections....

That sounds soooo much like unbiased and equal chances for all parties.....I am sure the opposition is delighted to have him supervise it.....

What do they mean by "soon". Is that the same as when the government said the rice farmers will be paid "soon"?

sŏon This is the Thai word for zero, nothing, nada. Strange,in a way.

Yes, the steady trend of both public opinion and events is to have an election in present time, to honor and respect the outcome, and to get on with the country's business to include "reforms.".

Suthep has isolated himself to the point he's more a nuisance than a bother.

Abhisit is desperate to find an exit that has a noble hue given he's spectacularly lost all credibility domestically and globally.

The DP has only become more seriously fragmented so it has necessarily turned inward on itself. Suthep for one thing still has strong lines into the DP. Abhisit and Korn have serious differences over both Suthep and standing in elections. The DP has no program to present to even their own electorate, much less to appeal to voters that might be open to new approaches.

The still anonymous cave men of the PDRC still won't tell anyone outside their cave what they would do besides throw a bunch of "bad people" out of the country while confiscating all or most of their respective estate.

Some judges are slowing their pace after having thought speed was the order of the day.

Yes, the overall picture is that the longer this continues the tougher and tougher it gets for those who need to make things undemocratic happen.

Hello Mr Scamper. As usual you are occupying the area of ground that we call "nutcase alley". Get out of there, man! You could have a good life if you just rejoined the normal world.

Look, Mr Scamper, you are getting obsessed with the minutiae of Mr Chalerm and the EC etc. Instead, you should keep focussed (as we all should) on how democracy works.

This is how democracy works. I can't say it more simply than this:

You have an election.

You propose candidates for the consideration of voters.

The voters vote.

Someone wins.

That's democracy. Do you finally get it Mr Scamper? If not, just read the above again. Then again.

People all over the world get it. Why not you?

Or do you need one of your ammart idiot friends to tell you their usual lying fairy tales:

"...democracy is not the answer because Thai people are too stupid to vote".

What country are you from Mr Scamper? Russia, North Korea, China? You clearly have had your views manipulated by living in a country where the democratic process does not hold sway.

Oh dear, the usual totally nonsensical stuff from Mr Scamper. So what planet do you yourself inhabit, Mr Scamper?

Well it's clearly not Venus or Mars, because the people on such planets might be somewhat similar to humans, given the similar size of the planets.

An unknown 9th or 10th planet, maybe? Planet "Muppet," possibly?

Anyway I'd suggest that you return there.

Anteater, do you really believe Thaksin cares about democracy? Do you really believe the elections here in Thailand are fair?

You can bet your last baht that after the elections in July, Thaksin will win due to a slanted and uneven election playing field. After that, there will be no more democratic elections as we know it. Thaksin will be president for life. Mark my words!

Thaksin does not care one bit about the people of Thailand. He is all out for himself and his family and he wants control of the whole country without any interference or any groups standing in his way of total rule and domination of Thailand. He's already said independent agencies are not needed.

You must be blind not to see the writing on the wall. Maybe you are just comfortable with Thaksin's idea of democracy, but I am not.

Dream on thinking Thaksin will bring true democracy to Thailand.

Wow! You really are a lost puppet anteater. Democracy begins with voting. That is only a small part. What you seem to lack in knowledge about is that the people who get voted are supposed to br working to impove the WHOLE country and ALL of the people. The way you describe it sounds like N. Korea where their leader got 100% of the peoples votes.

Hit the books or at least google what democracy means before posting such nonsense

You only put the initial sequence of actions. Don't forget:

The someone who wins forms a government

The government is in office for 4 years

Unless they act illegally, cheat and lie

Then they are removed by the people

and may be impeached and put before the courts.

That's democracy. Winning doesn't make your corruption legal, your lies truthful or put you and your family, friends and cronies above the law. That's democracy most people all over the world get. Not the tin pot version offered by some despots and wannabee despots.
