NeverSure
Where were the BIB? Either to stop/limit the carnage the driver was committing, or to prevent the mob from lynching/stabbing him? This incident must have lasted some considerable time, surely at least one BIB must have seen or been aware of it happening. Useless Pratts! so you think there were no police present ? - I have learned one thing here in Thailand, never believe what is written in a news story How do you think this would go down on the world stage..........Headline "Police stand by while a mob attack and murder a bus driver in central Bangkok" I kid you not I don't know Thai laws on this issue and I don't know them for Western countries other than my own. But the US Supreme Court has ruled that the police have no duty to protect you. That seems fair to me. Why should a couple of, or even a handful of police wade into a deadly and enraged crowd at the peril of their own lives? Should they stop a bullet meant for you with their own body? No, they will call for reinforcements and probably get a SWAT team there in this situation. If there are finally enough police with enough equipment... It will be too late.

The BIB were probably standing on the other side of the road watching. I say that because I saw a similar incident a year or so ago on Thong Lor. A motorcyclist was hit by a car. The motorcycle taxi guys dragged the driver out of the car and beat him up. Two police officers just stood on the opposite side of the road and didn't bother to intervene until the violence died down. So.... if you are ever involved in an accident..... RUN! They were probably the cigarette butt mafia, they dress like police

You would have thought that a policeman would have seen this and done something, but maybe not. However, in any normal society someone would have called the police and there would have been 3 or 4 police cars there within minutes. Did anyone call?... I doubt it.

Isn't "To protect & to serve" the US police motto, printed on police cars and such? If what you say is true about the Supreme Court ruling then they will need to change that. "To serve" isn't quite so catchy and is a bit ambiguous plus I think someone already uses that as their motto... Is it Walmart? 7-11? The Lawn Tennis Association? I forget... Docno
I've been telling people for years on this forum - if involved in an accident NEVER stop. Maybe that's he was doing after hitting the first vehicle? Looks like the strategy didn't work out so well for him...

Maybe playing Grand Theft Auto V on the Xbox just wasn't doing it for him anymore... (well, it is exactly what you do in the game: steal vehicles, including buses, and cause mass havoc ... however, police or civilians usually kill you with guns rather than knives).

[sarcasm] Then it must be a case of a man not being able to control his emotions casuing him to act irrationally and violently, obviously that sort of beheaviour is not to be allowed and the proper course to follow with such a threat to society is for a mob to lynch him on the spot. TinoThailand
A BUS DRIVER was lynched and fatally stabbed after he allegedly stole a minibus and crashed into 12 vehicles - including four taxies, a motorcycle and a fruit-vending cart - during a road-rage incident in the heart of Bangkok early yesterday. The driving style was not so far from normal, the road-rage was the lynching, right? I wish to believe lynching is outrage yes, remember "strange Fruits" by Billie Holiday? I think all humans are strange fruits but that was not the meaning of the song.

Popular Post dwcrist
Maybe Thais are fed up with people with connections and money getting off scott free. Since there is no justice in the justice system, I can understand why people would want to take care of situations immediately themselves. I don't agree, but I understand. This is what you get when a people do not have confidence in their police force or justice system to resolve the situation and make fair rulings. Something to think about, Thailand.

This incident must have lasted some considerable time, surely at least one BIB must have seen or been aware of it happening. Useless Pratts! More likely that this incident didn't take a considerable time and was over fairly quickly given the circumstances. As police do not follow every vehicle in Bangkok in order to prevent incidents like this, it has to be assumed that they were there shortly after they were called to the incident. Why should a police officer "surely" have witnessed it?
MMarlow
Thailand is lawless, It does not even have a Govt. It is descending into anarchy. An accurate observation, except that Thailand does have laws, has a government and is nowhere near anarchy.

MMarlow
Strange thing is, when the real bus drivers cause death and mayhem, they go scott free. (14 or more deaths) This non bus driver gets lynched, stabbed, and kicked to death. (One serious Injury) Well, I will just wait for the typical "T.I.T" responses...that explains it. As savage as this mob's action were, the kid was beaten and stabbed to death, nowhere in other reports does it say he was lynched. But makes yet another nice headline for TV. Being beaten and stabbed to death, or killed in any other manner, by an enraged mob is called a lynching so it is an accurate headline.

The complete inability, and unwillingness to take responsibility for ones actions. Notice how infrequently this kind of act is committed by women? The parents in this country are going to have to start telling their sons: "You are nothing special. You are like everyone else. You have responsibilities to others. You must work hard. Nobody is going to look after you later in life. You must take charge. You must act mature. Your sisters are just as special as you. They will probably work harder, be more honest, and exhibit more of the characters that help to build society, so you are no big deal at all".

Thailand has laws, which it's citizens show total disregard for, and a government which, through it's major instruments.(.police force and judiciary) fails to uphold or enforce. At all levels from petty theft to major political corruption.

Popular Post bowerboy
My comment is in the context that I drive a lot in Thailand and sometimes the behaviour of people on the roads here is beyond words (literally I cannot think of words to describe the utter idiocy and total lack of consideration for others and for human life that I see here day in and day out). The facts prove the utter insanity and total lack of consideration on the roads here....2nd highest road death toll in the world and by a very wide margin... Complete and total disregard for others...if there was more of this justice the roads would be a safer place.

dominique355
This is setting a very dangerous precedent where a lynch mob get away scot free, today it this deranged young man, whose to say that tomorrow it going to be just a normal citizen who would be involve in a similar accident albeit innocent? would he lynched too? how about a farang being lynched? where dose it end? What makes you think that this will be only tomorrow that normal citizens will be attacked and killed and the killers walk away? It happened already, repeatedly. I just remind you Trat and Rajaprasong recently, where normal people were shot at and bombed by others (presumably Red Shirts), just because they had a different political opinion. Actually those killed did not even have a political opinion, or did not express any. Have any suspects been arrested or did the Police even look for them?
