8OA8
It's a good thing that Thailand has strict gun control laws which prevent this sort of thing. Strict gun control laws stop the law abiding citizen, the non-law abiding citizen in any country won't be inconvenienced by such controls

Popular Post dddave
Lovely Thai Buddhists. Yes, for sure. Members of all the worlds other religions do so much better adhering to their professed principals. Take Christianity for example and the foundation principal: "Thou shalt not kill."

lucjoker
In Thailand you are not allowed to change anything on your car ! Not even the color.(you need a change in your blue-book and a permission ) All those street racers have altered their cars ,hundreds of them ! police are doing nothing ? Same with motor cycles ,change the wheels ,steers,chocks.....ex oust pipes removed ......No problem .

RogueLeader
This country is getting seriously out of control, the police need to start actually doing proactive police work rather than reactive. These youths have far too easy access to guns and carry them with impunity, after an incident like this the dragstrip should be closed down and those involved get a lifetime ban when or if it ever opens again, these youths must be taught that this sort of behaviour is not acceptable The police need to start doing police work full stop, rather than blatantly acting as security guards and janitors to the wealthy, property-owning classes.
RogueLeader
It's a good thing that Thailand has strict gun control laws which prevent this sort of thing. What Thailand has is selective, lax enforcement due to corruption. It doesn't matter how many laws you make, if you can't enforce them, they might as well not be there.
draftvader
This reminds me of the "disagreement" had between a bunch of local lads and some kids from another soi over Songkran. This was in the soi I used to live in and I know most of the local lads fairly well having been around them since they were 10 years old (ish). I wasn't there but a friend was and apparently they were all drinking and playing together throughout the day. As the day wore on and it got dark so did the drink (into Lao Kao and Hong Thong). Around 9pm they started scrapping and guns were drawn (always known they were about but most of the locals are fairly discrete about it). During the pushing and shoving one of the local lads shot one of the others in the leg and they all beat a hasty retreat (with trail of blood up to the local Tesco Lotus still visible a week later). Whatever it was about I know they wouldn't have been pulling guns about 10 hours earlier. Get a couple of drinks involved, have one of the guys hit on a local girl (a guess..but fairly educated) and its silly time. Luckily the guy with the gun was a poor shot or he could have been looking at life (not very rich or well connected locally). Silly lot. The only difference between this lot and the kids where I used to live in West London is the choice of weapons (guns rather than knives).
liddelljohn
I have seen similar incidents in UK and USA but no gunfire ,,,,,, but punch ups and stabbings between race teams ....but Thailand is a hotbed of bad losers... I used to go to Bangkok Drag Avenue and the teams from Chonburi and pattaya were a pretty rough bunch , the Bangkok teams seem a bit more HISO ....New money versus old money and loss of face plus drugs and alcohol and macho Giks is not a good plan . soalbundy
one has to ask what they use as drag strips, are these special racing strips built to purpose or are they simply streets that these idiots have taken over. Also have to wonder at the cars, are these cars being driven on the roads as normal cars or are they again simply built for racing. Seems like the police have a lot to answer for here, why arent they controlling this situation and how in the hell can they let them run in the first place but then I suppose the extra cash they get for letting them do it suffices. Would also bet that most of these "drivers"(and I use that term very loosely) are from well to do families to afford the cars in the first place, maybe its time for the police to start doing what they are paid for instead of just collecting cash bonuses for ignoring it. Maybe it is time for you to stop jumping to un-informed conclusions. BDA is a purpose-built, privately owned drag strip of international standards, the racing is certainly not done on the streets so there is no police corruption involved neither do they have anything to answer for. So your statement, "maybe its time for the police to start doing what they are paid for instead of just collecting cash bonuses for ignoring it." is, once again, an unjustified dig at the police. Some cars are street cars, some are pure drag cars that would be impossible to drive on public roads that are trailered to the strip and they run in different classes. There is a mix of racers from the ordinary bloke running his inexpensive standard car to the more affluent competing in a faster more specialist class, many with sponsorship from well-known companies to tuning companies running their own vehicles That's very interesting, next time i want to see a gun fight i'll go there. I lived in Twickenham and would see plenty of fights most Friday and Saturday nights. As for knife crime I was mugged at knife point (he tried to stab me) in Staines. He got 9 years for attempted murder. In Twickenham there was a kid stabbed about 100m from my home about 10 minutes after I walked past a crowd of teenagers. Amelie Delagrange was bludgeoned to death with a hammer on my doorstep whilst my wife and I were taking a bath. I have step-nephews in Forest Hill whose friends was stabbed to death in a party they were at. The list can go on. The shooting happened in Bangplad over Songkran. Again you can try and say "oh this area is safe or that area is dangerous" but in reality Bangkok is still a thousand times safer than London on average. Then again you could try Sao Paulo (where we were involved in what we can still only describe as a surreal mugging!) or Mexico city where we walked past a street with a gunfight happening....that was surprising.

shrimpythailand
"bangkok" drag race road is on Klong 6 in thanyaburi - just up past the outer ring rd. on the Nakorn Nayok-Rangsit rd.... I haven't been there but i live out here... a couple or three years ago - 2 kids racing with say 3 girls in the back seat of each car had a smack up and one car flew into klong 6 and killed either all in the car or some of them... there is a sign on NN-Rangsit rd that says Bangkok Drag Street up there about klong 5...it may be a privately run part of the road but it sure isn't accident free... but maybe a good place to drag race but don't bump the other car and fly off into the klong.... or get shot during a shoot out by rival car racer gangs is all I can say... sgtsabai
Back in the states there was a lot of betting going on at the drag strips and yes it did lead to a few 'arguments'. Many strips had late night or midnight special races. Night racing is quite popular, cooler better times. Never saw a shoot out, but punch outs yea. On NHRA/AHRA strips don't get caught with booze/drugs in the pits, especially if you are driving and yes they do check, especially at national events. Some of the 'outlaw' strips don't check, at least very closely. I raced for many years, had a few 'words' with others but like I said never saw a shoot out. Then again, most people in the states are packing heat(I certainly was) and that is usually a consideration, usually that is. Started with a '56 Chevy PU then '63 409/4spd Impala SS, 12.68/110 mph stock '02 Camaro SS was my last before finally getting the hell out of the states. I do miss the drag racing, but not the states. Gangs are always a problem, no matter what the venue and no matter where they are.
