Village headmen from Chiang Mai to challenge anti government protesters at Interior Ministry

BANGKOK: -- Village headmen kicked off their long march from Chiang Mai to Bangkok Saturday to demand anti government protesters now occupying the Interior Ministry office pull out, reasoning their occupation for months has obstructed working of interior officials, and put people in trouble.

They set off their travel in 26 buses Saturday with first stop over in Lamphun province to join village headmen there to head for Bangkok.

They expected to arrive in Bangkok Sunday.

Leader of the headmen from Chiang Mai, Mr Kamoldit Rotananipat, alias Kamnan Daeng, president of Kamnan and Phuyaibaan Association of Chiang Mai, said 11,000 kamnan and village headmen from Chiang Mai would join the rally with headmen from across the country to rally at the Interior Ministry.

He said about 80,000 headmen would travel to Bangkok to demand protesters return the ministry back to officials to work.

He said it would be a one-day rally and all would return after they have the ministry back from protesters.

He also said they decided to demand the Interior office back because now only a small number of protesters are occupying the ministry.

He said the protesters’ presence at the ministry was useless and did not contribute any good to the people.

Besides it was against the law and is a crime, he said, adding that it was the reason for village headmen to join together to demand the return of their office from the protesters.

The Interior Ministry was seized by the Network of Students and People for the Reform of Thailand since Shut Down Bangkok campaign was declared by protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban early this year.

Your comment is, sadly, typical of many a response on this forum to a serious news item. Reduce it to trivilaities and try to make clever comments. Once in while, It would be helpful, to recognize that PRDC's rent-a-mob in Bangkok are causing real difficulties for those whose function it is to carry out the administrative fiat at ampoe, tambon and moo baan level throughout the country.

you think its a silly post then you state rent-a-mob look in the mirror for silly relies ...which foot got shot nice one sonny..

He should be grateful it is not like Thaksin's armed rent a mob. I presume he is against blood shed.

Given the VERY strong relationship that exists between the Interior ministry and the "village headmen" I would not be surprised to see a good turnout.

If the occupation has impacted on the operation of the department then I could understand why the "headmen" are p-ssed off.

If you have never thought about the relationship then this would be a good time to do so

You could also think about why the PTP is opposed to breaking this arrangement down by handing over certain function to the provinces.

On the usual red counting they will fit in 3 buses.

Maybe more than 3 buses, if all headmen come which I doubt, as most are over 80 years old. But there's certainly no more than 2,000, as opposed to the 80,000 quoted, as there are no more than 2,000 villages in CM: c.f Chiang Mai is subdivided into 25 districts (Amphoe). The districts are further subdivided into 204 subdistricts (Tambon) and 1915 villages (Muban). (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiang_Mai_Province )

I also, in accordance with your post, and the following comments offered by red nomads, as usual, would like to know how the alledged '80,000 village headmen know all about the functions of internal workings in Bangkok offices, and how it has obstructed them. The only sh-it obstructing them is lack of payment for rice, which the alledged office workers they are coming to support have obviated directly. ;)

So, is there any red here who can pertain to 80,000 village headmen, and offer proof? Not that there is any concern on our part, but we would like to know how many numbers will be over-indulged in, before the 2 or 3 million turn out on May 14th in support of ridding the Burped boots... :P

and usual inane post by someone who is totally uninformed. Apparently you were not out on Chiang Mai - Lampang Highway like I was today, and obviously didn't see the 20+ bus convoy heading out. Engage brain before operating mouth. Try it sometime. You might be amazed at how well it works.

You're kidding aren't you? 20+ bus convoy - of village heads? Ha... they're all cropping right now hoping for payment, knowing they'll get it from the lying PTP this week, again. 20 Buses, maybe: of armed thugs pretending to be old men. That's about the size of it.... assuming you counted 20 red buses.... or were you having a dream about London?

40,000 headmen was enough for traffic (steve winwood)

Yes, but these headmen have Blind Faith in Yingluck and the PTP.

I just hope for their sake they don't run into a lot of Traffic on the way down to Bangkok.rolleyes.gif

all the last red demonstrations were a complete disaster....people went home during the speeches as the paid time was finished....part were rented labor from Myanmar....the numbers were way lower than claimed.

Why should it be different this time? But lets see

There's a very simple fix to all this.....unfortunately, the Honourable PM refuses to step down.....retain power at all costs.

I guess, they have to do something, in order to make people believe, that they still have some strength

the biggest laugh in all this is that as red village headmen they are only in their position as headmen throught threat of violence from other reds and corrupt practices. These headmen are a joke and we all know how they demand cash for everything, look at the guy wanting to build a house but the headman wants 50,000 baht to approve it(thread in general), they are just as corrupt as the rest of the ptp and red scum, who gives a flying f*** what they want. All this does is show how pathetic the ptp and reds are by now making these idiots go to Bangkok, as if anyone will even listen to these uneducated dropkicks, maybe they have employed red bus drivers and they will all be p*ssed, crash the busses and do a runner, we can only hope

Don't know how many people seat in a bus but it used to be 46. 46x23 = 1,058, not 11,000, or 80.000. there won't be too many old men wanting to stand from CM to BKK. They are meant to be arriving tomorrow And the big red rally is setting up tomorrow forr Monday so that 1,000 should be 1,000 coming for that anyway.

11,000 old men. That's a lot of toilet stops for p;ichups or busses & the ministry will be sort of closed for business anyway on Monday, being a public holidaybut maybe the students are open for busines. Hope there is a ministry for the workers to come back to on Tuesday at any rate. If the reds get excited thay may forget what they wer meant to be doing. I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't from Khaosod because there was so much contradictory info in it. Well, lets not count them out. Time will tell. Not long to wait.
