I looked a quite a few threads with people taking taxis 'to' the airport. Unfortunately, none of the recent posts list any phone numbers for these companies.

Can someone who has called a reliable taxi service recently please provide a phone number. I need a late-night taxi tomorrow.

Thanks.

... so I call them up to reserve a taxi.

"From where?" Huaw Keaw Rd says I.

"To where" To the airport says I.

"300 baht" You misunderstood, says I. I only want to ride in the Taxi, not buy it.

No wonder they are reliable. It's actually worth it to them! LOL!

That is the number for the Chiang Mai Airport Taxi Cooperative. They are great and all have Wing 41 certification which saves me at least 10-15 minutes. Now Aiirport Taxi wont do pickups after 7pm. This policy (no have car sir) started a couple years ago during high season only, appears now to be year round. If you contact one of the drivers directly and they are available they will pick you up. I always want a pickup to the airport at 19:30.

Last month I got the Taxi Meter to show up at that time. They wanted an extra 50 baht or so compared to the Airport Taxi rate. Better than standing in the heat looking to flag a Songthaew all dressed for travel. The vehicle did not have a Wing sticker.

If they would just use the meter we wouldn't have to go through all this nonsense.

In Bangkok 300 baht would take you half way across the city, in traffic.

Since their appearance a couple years ago I have flagged down the Taxi Meter vehicles a few times whilst with friends. Never once were they interested in the meter and were sent off. I think we bit one time only when we had enough beer to drown a donkey and went for it. I'd rather take a Tuk-Tuk.

If anyone knows of any driver using the meter in the history of CM please let us know.

Seems to be a national trend. When I was in Pattya last year, not one taxi had a meter which worked - so they said.

I don't know if tuk-tuks are allowed into the airport, but the trip wouldn't be longer than to the night markets, and that's usually 80 - 100baht.

keep in mind that these taxi companies do not answer their telephones at night. one time we foolishly waited until the last minute to call a taxi for a late night flight and not a single one of them answered their phone. all offices closed. we had to quickly look on pantip.com for a taxi driver. the first couple of drivers we called lived in Hang Dong and could not get us to the airport in time. one of them was kind enough to call a tuk tuk driver friend who lived in Mae Jo to come and get us. we had several large boxes and there were 3 of us adults so it was an interesting trip (in the rain) to the airport! lesson learned...book early and don't expect to get an answer at night.

Sansai to airport (Thais) 250-300 Baht.

In Bangkok 300 baht would take you half way across the city, in traffic.

In Seattle it would get you to the next corner.

From Huaw Keaw Rd should be no more than 120 baht in a tuk tuk. I have used a tuk tuk there. I pay 100 baht from Worrorot Market area to the Airport shopping center. That is farther than Huaw Keaw Rd to the airport. Mind you just because you are going to the airport they may try to charge more. That is also all I pay to go to immigration office.

I really wouldn't be quibbling over a 300bt taxi ride that is going to get me to the airport.

no different to getting a flight to bkk for 1700bt or at peak times 2300bt.....I bet you don't quibble that.

If I was at risk of missing an international flight I would pay 10x that,

or ask a mate to take you? If you have any.

We would normally just use a tuk-tuk but it's a 23:50 flight, (hence the higher charge, at least so said the fellow on the phone.)

My regular tuk-tuk driver is away this week, so we decided to reserve a taxi rather than stand out on the street praying for a late working tuk-tuk. No one I know in the city owns their own car. We all just rent them when we need to go somewhere outside the immediate area, which usually only happens once or twice a month. No need for a car when you live in town.

But transportation is sorted. The driver promises to be here at the time we specified, and people have said the company is reliable.

Just a follow-up...

The driver called five minutes before the expected time, which I appreciate. Ready and waiting at the door for a late night ride to the airport.

I guess this really IS a reliable company. I like that. Thanks again.

What I never will appreciate is people who impose on friends (assuming I had any, that is. cheesy.gif ) in the middle of the night when there are viable alternatives.

Same used to happen to me when I was living near Huay Keow. Always arriving a few minutes early and waiting. Well worth the lack of worry wondering if they will arrive.

Not the same waaaay out in the sticks - at least 3km from Suthep Rd off Canal Rd. The driver was totally lost. No use referring him to a grid number in the Atlas of Chiang Mai. Not been invented yet, and I'm not sure drivers all carry smart phones.

He eventually found the house almost like giving him an instrument landing. rolleyes.gif

According to a driver, in answer to my query why not use the meter like in Bangkok.

His explanation was "By law we must have a meter but we don't have to use them" and they won't......Simple Thai logic.

To Northern John what a taxi costs in Seattle ,Sydney or London is totally irrelevant. The same driver told me he makes more than double the money he made in Bangkok ,the reason he moved to CM

Is the word 'Reliable' still being or was it ever used in Thailand?

Seriously, if you have a security guard on your MooBaan ask him to get you one, otherwise ask a friend.

I know I just threw that in as some one else was comparing prices in another city.
