Piichai
This extraordinary period in Thai history continues to set a new pace, as developments unfold quickly. Trying to sift through the news is the main challenge, and trying to verify such reporting in other publications is an added challenge. What we do know is that the Senate is functioning, and that is a key indicator and a very promising one at that. The courts similarly. It will likely take a number of days before things become clearer. The first aspect of the administration of this coup is clearly to secure control. Once that has been established, some path will likely emerge. But it is remarkable the change that has already taken place. There has been no violence or resistance. The PDRC remains jubilant. stunning synopsis of what everybody already knew, scamper, master of the bleeding obvious. In case you hadn't realised most people can read the news for themselves without you reiterating it for them Dude, you're really looking pretty sad today. robblok
Military Junta .... just where on earth do you think your living ? right or wrong you get summoned by any junta if .... if you have any sense innocent or guilty you dont wait, you get out while you can. No problems here.. as long as they can never get back.. good riddance of the Shins. Maybe the junta should try to get the courts to convict them on running from a summons.. making sure they can never ever run for government again. All of this because Taksin wanted his amnesty while poor red protesters are still rotting in jail because of him and his government toppled. SheungWan
The tedious and tiresome " Thaksin is the root of all evil" mantra continues unabated.. So many foreigners buy into this short-sighted nonsense and one wonders how they will respond, if at all, when it becomes clear that the problems are far more complex than can be answered in glib one liners about Thaksin.A vain and rather half-hearted effort to to raise the 'its not all about Thaksin' flag. Piichai
Was Surapong at the meeting so he's arrested already? Am pretty sure Surapong was not at the meeting yesterday. If my ears did not deceive me, Surapong was on the list of 100 announced just a little while ago. The new much larger list will be published soon. We'll See. robblok
Thai army summons ex-PM Yingluck, others in Thaksin clan It would seem as if that saying " as you sow so ye shall reap"" is now coming to bear upon the Shinwatra clan and their ilk. This whole current situation is down to Thaksin and his ilks relentless pursuit of absolute power and insatiable greed, nothing more nothing less. Papa Thaksin with his Red Shirts would indeed have been a seamless metamorphic process from Papa Doc Duvalier and his Ton Ton Macoute enforcers had the Shinwatra clan continued their Thailand takeover plan. Oh oh, he's found his "bumper book of despots" again. More mellifluous bile to follow, no doubt. Poor guy his side is taking a beating.. you know if only Taksin was not so selfish about the amnesty. Now you know who you have to thank for all of this. I hope the redshirts realize this.

smedly
Just think - if they stupid Shiniwatra clan had actually proposed a moderate rice policy, and NOT tried to get an amnesty for Thaksin - PTP would still be in power and none of this would have happened. I bet there are a lot of folks saying. WT F did we do? We had it all! Morons. They are not really a clan. There is only one man at the centre of the web and that is Thaksin. The family members are just pawns to be moved around. As for having it all and screwing up, Thaksin has been behaving like this for nearly 10 years so the pattern is familiar. Having it all and screwing it up is a Thai trait par excellence. Various things have been said to describe this - 'shooting themselves in the foot', 'having a self-destruct button', 'plain lack of common sense', 'being incapable of NOT biting the hands that feeds you' etc etc. Whatever it is, it is rife throughout Thailand - people get something good and through this weird and commonplace trait, screw it up sooner or later. It's a complete inability to learn from experience, in my view, and that has cultural and mental health connotations. I think you are close but I'll add this It's the complete inability of the system to permanently remove those repeat offenders - we have a trough cycle of 5 years or to put it another way a line that was managed by the one in the sand for loyal services

Yes, agreed, it should be resurrected, but they still have to find someone who can write it in English ...! I've already offered to do it for them free! "Mark" was educated in the UK...surely he could draft this up ? Why not? He's about the only one of those intellectual pygmies who would have the ability and knowledge - and isn't he a lawyer as well? One could ask what YOUR posts add to the thread also fab4 . . . we're all here with our own opinions and thoughts, and very often with polar opposite viewpoints, much like Thai politics. That's what a "forum" is all about. I myself also laugh loud and often at your posts and others in your group who state things as fact then refuse to back it up with any links or proof or to answer any direct questions asked of you. One thing is VERY clear however . . . much like the viewpoints on here, there is NO middle ground, reconciliation, kissing and making up . . . not for a long, long while yet. Disclaimer: That's my opinion. I have no facts to back it up. At least, none that you'd accept.

Mister Fixit
She is the current leader of thailand elected by the people. The court ruling to oust her was illegal. She has a moral and legal mandate to not show up as well as a natural instinct to save ones life? Is there any guarantee she would not be arrested or killed? Where is Jatuporn? So you know better than the Constitutional Court judges? Who are you, oh, tiny speck on Thiavisa, to say whether or not they did not do their jobs properly and follow the law? Do you SERIOUSLY think she would be killed when (or if) she turns up at Thewet? Maybe on Planet devaram, but not in the real world. However, there's a good chance she could be 'arrested' (more likely worded 'detained' when she arrives), so she'd better pack a few dozen pairs of Gucci shoes and some nice designer clothes when she goes. Jatuporn was detained yesterday and remains at the Army centre. Do keep up. Edited May 23, 2014 by Mister Fixit

Popular Post GeorgeO
I could understand all this if the intention was to lock them all in a room until they had a solution that they were all agreed on. But its a job to understand where all this is going Sent from my Nexus 4 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app I think this coup was staged far too early. It looks like the general is used to getting things done quickly and doesn't understand the slow process of negotiation. The martial law was fine and maybe could have been earlier as it could stop more bloodshed and allow things to cool to give time for talks. It's a pity in some ways that Yingluck isn't still caretaker PM. She's no worse than could be expected without any experience but she does seem to be less confrontational. If they could have got her into negotiations without access to Thaksin then they might have got somewhere. If it were her and Abhisit who is also more likely to compromise than Suthep that might have brought results. Maybe they'll try to do something to encourage talks now they've shown they're serious. I won't hold my breath though. I perhaps do understand a little of what you are saying but also consider this The stalemate has not been going on for a few days - it has been 6 months Several key things needed to happen to move forward and Prayuth tabled those at the head of the meeting and got a negative response PTP to immediately resign was the key one - this would have allowed all those concerned to get round the table and work out a path forward together all inclusive For me this was not a debateable option - it had to happen PTP for six months now have repeatedly refused to compromise on any front in fact they have done the complete opposite and tried every underhand way possible to intimidate - the generally peaceful - anti government supporters causing 27 deaths and massive numbers of injuries If you are a trained negotiator there are some things called roadblocks to the process that must be removed The Process - Negotiable The Reforms - negotiable The Election date - negotiable One side in power and unwilling to compromise - Road Block The stability of the country - not Negotiable - needed action to pay the farmers etc This could easily have turned out differently I am neither red or any other colour I am pro Thai people and I know the difference between what is right and what is wrong and in my opinion PTP were just wrong, they will now be investigated and the government books audited - if my gut feel is correct it will uncover the biggest scandal and unabated theft by corruption SE Asia has ever seen - but will see I have stated concerns similar to your last paragraph on many occasions, and indeed, I believe that the auditors will find that some THB 1 1/2 to 2 trillion (£28 - 37 billion) has been lost, wasted or unaccounted for. This is corruption on a scale never witnessed before anywhere in the world.

Thai army is a private army for the rich - but they are to stingy to pay for them so they use our tax money instead! 3rd world Banana republic army! You still just don't get it. This whole thing is nothing to do with democracy. It is just one very rich group trying to take power from another very rich group so they can put their snouts in the trough. All the little people are just pawns kept ignorant and told a lots of b**sh**. exept one Rich group uses the ballot box abs offers a choice.
