M-67 grenade found in the middle of Phayathai District

BANGKOK, 26 May 2014 (NNT) - Police were called in immediately after an M-67 grenade that was wrapped with a black tape was found in front of a bus stop on Si Ayutthaya Road in Phayathai District.

Police Lieutenant Atikpop Chan-soda of Phayathai Police Station later notified the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team about the finding. The police also had to temporarily close off the road so that the EOD team could be put to work.

Fortunately, the EOD team made a safe recovery of the grenade, as the pin had not yet been unlatched.

An eyewitness reported that a Bangkok street cleaner found the grenade in the middle of the road and immediately notified the police.

Investigations revealed that the perpetrator might have intentionally dropped the grenade to get rid of any possible evidence rather than stage attacks, as the military has been active to crackdown on anybody who possessed firearms or weaponry.

At this point, the police would be searching through all the CCTV cameras around the area to identify the suspect.

Drop 'em & run red rouge.

Where do all those grenades come from ?

Its not something you buy at your local hardware store or ebay

Or are these from the robberies a while back from army storages?

In that case they would have a pretty clear idea how many there are still out there

Now that Adul has been removed as police chief we might get some efficiency out of them.

No more one sided justice in other words.

Perfect coup.

In the middle of the road is so much better than in a khlong or in the rough.

I would dispute that, only needed a kid to pick it up.

Their weapons (as in red weapons) date back to the Vietnam war era, most of them! I mean these things are more like antiques than they are weapons for crying out loud. Pretty clear they can't get their hands on much decent stuff in the army's arsenal; though a lot of keyboard conspiracy guys on places like this like to conjure up stories of how the army planted this and set up that, haha. Thats silly.

Looks like the Reds dropped something when they scattered yesterday.

What a mess with all this stuff lying around. Lucky the cleaner guy didn't take it to the iron scrap yard, to be disassembled.... whistling.gif

Silly indeed, but not clever either to write the red movement doesn't have an arsenal of more modern weaponry, some stolen from soldiers, and 'recuperated' from wounded and dead ones, some that were bought 'back' from Burmese, erm, merchants (back, because it are Thai Military Issue weapons, go wonder how they got those...), some more that could have crossed another border coming from 'friendly Cambodians', and probably quite some from the number that yearly 'can not be found anymore' in army arsenals. Reminds of that news, that was 'drawned' within two days, about scores of assault rifles, some sub-machine guns, a few machine guns, grenade launchers, grenades, pistols of different types and calibers, and tons of ammunition that 'could not be found anymore' at an army base in Prachuap when the ex-but-then-new-again colonel for some reason asked for an inventory... When I remember well, a couple of army sgts or so fled, but I never heard about it, or them, again after...
