Mates,

I'm looking for a beach side location to stay at for a few days. Not looking to splurge, but I do want unspoilt beaches and a minimum of rowdy tourists (so Pattaya/Jomtien is off the list).

Should be not too far from BKK, say about 2hour drive. Ideally there should be good restaurants, and perhaps some natural scenery and temples to explore.

Any suggestions? for example, Hua Hin?

Help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Need to go past Hua Hin for that, worth carrying on to Prachuap Kiri Kan, great beach at ao manao, certainly temples, monkey and scenery. food, well the restaurants are nothing fancy but come with some of the freshest seafood around.

That's way more than 2 hours. There are many beaches in and around Sattahip which should meet your criteria.

I think to get really nice beaches you need to go south of Hua Hin and/or south of Rayong. It's more than 2 hours, but if clear water is what you want, then it's a requirement. If you look at a map of Thailand, those are about the end points for the bay, which is heavily affected by the water coming out of the Chao Phraya.

The beach at Laem Mae Phim is pretty nice. Lots of seafood restaurants up and down the coast, plenty of things to do. Gets a bit crowded on the weekends, otherwise is very quiet. I don't know these guys, but you'll see lots of pics of that area on this site:

Mike111, Do you have a car or using public transport ?

I went to Prachuap Kiri Kan a few weeks ago, it is lovely there but much more than 2 hours. (2 hrs Past Hau Hin)

There are many beach areas south of Rayong to explore if you have a car.

I just clicked on one of those links thinking I would learn about some new beach spot and I end up at sunrise property's Thailand . What's that got to do a nice beach 2 hours from BKK? I thought links were banned on this forum?

Had Chao Samran in Phetchaburi for the quiet beach resort and decent restaurants. Phetchaburi town is about 15km away and has plenty of temples to explore including Wat Khao Wang.

Their website has a lot of good info on it. Maps of the area, links to local attractions, etc. It's one of the better websites I've found and it use to have lots of pictures of the beach. So you could get an idea of what the beach there looked like. It also shows hotels, holiday rentals, etc.

If you have a better one, please share!! Would love to have it.

Ahh I thought it was some sort of spam type thing. I clicked off it straight away and didn't check it out. Thanks for clearing it up.

You could try Bang Saen, about half way between Chonburi and Si Racha. Almost 4 Km of beach and Monkey Mountain. The old village of Ang Sila is not far and the Chinese Temple near there is something else.

Good luck.

Nearest beach south of Rayong have to be close to Hat Yai.... Try the beaches east of Rayong, that's the area to look for. Mae Rum Pueng etc. ...

Weekday or weekend will determine if busy or not. Bang Saray is lovely although can be busy wekends, and a trip to Sai Kaow beach although again very busy at weekends. Plenty to see and most for free rather than National Parks.

West coast is Cha am but again weekends or holidays gets busy. Again plenty to do and see and most for free.

Both places offer accomodation starting at THB 500 or for something with a pool about 1K a night.

Consider Sattahip, 30kms down Sukhumvit past Pattaya.

Baan By The Sea is a nice hotel right on the water and 5 mins walk away is a street that is full of food stalls after 17:30.

There are plenty of little beaches further on and a ferry to a small island. Also a museum of natural history.

Hi,

I was in Pran Buri around 2 weeks ago, and I can recommend this, quiet, nice and clean beaches, superb sea food, it's around 30km south of Hua Hin.

I stayed at a place named Pranmanee Beach Resort, just 20m from the beach
