Apologies if this should sit in a different Forum or is covered elsewhere but have looked and don't see it...

...my (Thai) wife and I are looking at getting a condo here in CM as a vacation base. We're based longer-term elsewhere in Thailand but really like CM and pop across here once every couple of months or so via BKK. Two questions then:

1. Any recommendations on the more falang-friendly condo/living areas? My wife has family around the Doi Suthep area and we've checked out that side (see below) and are for the next couple of days driving round in general. I've seen places on the other side of town - near the railway station - general thoughts/advice wanted, please.

2. As I said, we've looked out towards Doi Suthep and thought we'd found the 'ideal' place two months ago. For obvious reasons, I won't name the location but we went back this week and the development had hardly moved and as far as I can see, they haven't sold m(any) more units from the 50% or so that were booked when we looked last time. Looking at their - and indeed craftily at every - visitors log book, it seems the new developments aren't getting much in the way of footfall at all. Is the market cooling off here or is this just, in people's estimation, an effect of the current situation/time of year?

Thoughts and guidance welcomed - thanks in advance.

...and apologies... the so-called 'top' hotel we are staying in has the flakiest Internet I've seen in ages and the post has come up three times. My bad... I'll try and delete the parallel posts but if a moderator sees this at some point, please blast away at the duplicates!

Personal message sent. The most crucial aspect of buying a condo is to ensure the accounts are all in order, and fully audited and the building is well managed by an accountable pro-active committee of co- owners. Note the Juristic Person should be accountable to the management committee (the co-owners). NOT the other way around! If others looking at this thread want to see how a building should be managed, PM me.

Hi, you actually mean Doi Suthep (the mountain) near the university? Because there are plenty condominium buildings there up and down the Canal Road, and Nimmanhaemin Rd of course. The ones near the railway station tend to be older, dilapidated, but relatively affordable.

we've looked out towards Doi Suthep and thought we'd found the 'ideal' place two months ago. For obvious reasons, I won't name the location but

What obvious reason could that possibly be? You found a condo that's so hidden that nobody could possibly find it. laugh.png

But in essence you're asking for info but not sharing it? Good luck with that. tongue.png

Chiang Mai has different locations that are unique in their own way, it really depends on what you would be interested in an what kinda surrounding facilities you would require. If you need any further advise feel free to PM me. I've done some research on my own as well.
