Why do they keep going on about free tickets for board members? That's chickenfeed and tokenistic. They need to deal with the cost structures , the bloated staffing, the free tickets for staff, family and friends of staff etc. They won't do that because of the payback for the union's support. It will just limp on, dead in the water..

While true it is a drop in the bucket, it is an indication of the corporate culture. Tip of the iceberg kind of thing.

It is the same with most airlines A friend of ours works for Qantas and she gets return airfares from Australia to Bangkok for $98.00 After seven years of service , due in 9 months time she gets business class everywhere. And it is just not the airfares she also gets huge discounts from Hotels and cruise lines .

In most cases these tickets are on a Stand-by basis ONLY. So these are seats, that otherwise would be empty. Empty seats = no income!!

SHe has never been left at a airport in 6 years . When I had to go back to Aus for doctors appointments every 3 months ,she put me on as her partner and I got the same airfares as her .Sometimes the air hostess would put you in business class if they new you were staff.

What is a policeman doing on the board of an airline in the first place? A genuine question.

I think that in Thailand you need to have a master degree of some sort or be a kind of general to get any important job. That is what Thailand suffer under. the eldest is always the wisest. The old man is always the leader. The oldest is always right. Problems ? No, this system has already worked fine for more than 2500 years.

I would venture to guess that board of director members of practically every airline on the planet get free flights....it's considered part of the compensation. Thai has much bigger problems than board members free tickets. The real question is can they find board members who actually know what they are doing and are capable of running a major airline.

More resignations and moving officials to inactive posts.

The scale of these resignations and movements is huge and indicates the massive scale of the snouts in the trough.

It's no wonder PTP were prepared to start a civil war in order to hang on to these perks.

Start a civil war eh?

Must have missed that somewher along the line these last few months.

Still, as its been posted here it must be true.

"But board chairman Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong will stay to help turn around the state-controlled airline after the junta refused his resignation.

ACM Prajin said the head of the military junta and the airline’s board wanted him to stay and help improve the airline which is in critical condition.

He said the board will adjust the airline’s strategy to generate more income, lower expenditures, and slash benefits of the board under the policy of the junta head."

The Chairman has experience in jet fighters and helicopters? What is the experience needed to run a major world airline company?

Payment of fees is not the issue with this? I see it more as moving the deck chairs on the Titanic? or we need our man Flint on the inside? I understand the Chairman in most cases can be the figure head for a listed company, with decisions comming from the CEO. However with Thai company's there appears to have too much interference from board level. Don't know what their internal governance procedures are like?

The armed force's need to let go of the reigns; let the free market economy operate the listed companies?

The freebies to the board are small change really, and probably something that would never be even raised as an issue should of the airline be doing well.

There are obviously far larger structural failings in the company which need to be addressed urgently.

Just like the directors of many other companies worldwide in this recession who have continued to pay themselves big bonuses while the share holders go without dividends and the value of their shares plummet.

They jumped before they were pushed.

Amazing that the 3 ACM's on the board did not find it necessary to jump before being pushed...

And filling that seat with a non-paying passenger, induces costs to the airline that paying customers need to subsidise.

And empty biz seats can be filled by upgrading paying coach passengers.

Correct ... airport-taxes/charges, baggage-handling & meal/drink-costs, fuel-burn & ticketing-costs.

And they block upgrades of fare-paying loyal-customers.

Perhaps the balanced decision might be to permit them economy-seats, at a nominal 10% fee, like other employees ?

And as for Board-level/senior-management dining-rooms ... but I won't start down that road.

The point is that board-members do need to know what their company's product is like, in order to do their jobs, but Business/First does tend to give a rather misleading experience. rolleyes.gif

Why, that undermines the value of the seat of the paying Biz Class passenger.

At last, the solution!

A bunch of old career soldiers will surely be able to turn around the fortunes of the national airline.

In 3 years your wonderful government has watched it go downhill, whats your other excuse ?? You had a young fashion wanna b as the PM and she had plenty of experience in Air travel.

Too many directors....10 or 12 would work much better than 15. This airline desperately needs a leader with airline turnaround experience and board members should be CEO's or those with Finance or marketing experience. Privatization should also be considered.

Well she was hardly out of the shops, in any country she visited, and loved the high class gear.

My point of the post was ?? AIRLINE experience ?? but as PM doing nothing to help the state run Airline. no comment only about my eyesight--??

Actually, they're all still board members. To give credit to ACM Prajin , he did offer his resignation as, he said, "an example to other NCPO members in similar positions", but was persuaded to stay on by Prayuth, who presumably also wants to "set an example to other NCPO members in similar positions"......................... whistling.gif

Exactly!

The staff members (how many thousands of them around the world?) get their Free or at the very least, massive discounts even after they retire.

Travel agents, here and around the world get "AD 75s" (Agent discounts of 75%) and then there is the "Interline Club" which is a cute little arrangement between carriers to provide either FOC (Free Of Charge) tickets to other Airline Staff and associated hangers-on.

All of these perks add up to financial ruin. We can only hope the Military Junta has the intestinal fortitude to take the tough action that is needed to save the National Flag Carrier.

If Thai is not willing to improve their service, food, equipment, seating, and any of the other aspects that will help the airline to be more competitive, the LEAST they can do is lower fares. Do that have that level of marketing savvy in them? Any creative juice to be seen anywhere in that organization? Of course the board members quit. No more first class tickets anywhere in the world. That was quite a perk. What was the cash value of that perk for them and their families?

Thai needs to completely overhaul and jail all it's hierarchy .... Why ???? see chart below.

So now fluctuations in share price and volumes traded not only is the indicator of how a company is run, but means people should be jailed?

Not saying there has not been mismanagement, but there are far clearer indicators of mismanagement than share prices and trade volumes. After all aren't share prices really just a measure of market sentiment in the company?

Kevvy, she is traveling on standby though, filling empty seats as such.

THAI book and confim and block them out of the system for their freebies.

Tell you what, how about you show how non partisan you are by explaining the background to your post (http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/736145-five-thai-board-members-resign/page-3#entry8000585) and your reasons for believing this to be the "truth"

seeing as you're only "Telling The Truth About the PTP" ?
