As I mentioned in my post re the Nissan Juke, I went car shopping today and after looking at most of the big name pickups, pretty much decided on the Mitsubishi Triton. Wonder what the impressions are of any recent buyers?

have you checked the new Nissan Navara - announced last week?

No, but I will before I lay down my money. They didn't have any display model in their showroom today.

I have great hopes that the yet to be released Triton will be visually superior to the current model.

Isn't this the new model? The brand new models are the ones that need the "gremlins" ironed out of as well.

Which is much better, mechanical and build, as the Mitsu.

Ignis' post is the actual new model.

My picture was of a Triton not a Navara.

There is a lot of confusion in this thread as to what picture in a post is of what truck, since pictures of both the new Navara and the new Triton have been posted Ignis. I think that IMHO is saying that Ignis's post #3 is the new Triton, and the picture of the Triton in post #7 is not I think the new Triton that will be sold in Thailand. The wheel well skirts in the two pictures of the Triton are very different.

I have had mine for 12 months and done 30,000kl it's a 4 door turbo diesel two wheel drive, I love it, get 1000ks from a tank and the performance and acceleration is terrific with the turbo.

I also find the Mitsubishi service in Pattaya second to none.

A word of warning to all pick up drivers the spare wheels tends to get stolen at car parks so invest in a very stout chain and lock

Anyone invested in a traycover for the Triton? Just wondering how much I'm going to be up for, as it's an absolute necessity for me.

Good to know. What Mitsu dealer do you use for service?

You can get a spare tire lock at Boy Air for B800. I had them put one on the truck (along with the fiberglass rollbar and lockable bed box) within 1 hour of buying the truck.

Boy Air sells the Carryboy bed cover and rollbar combination for B30,000. I chose the rollbar and large lockable bed box (both Carryboy) for my Triton. In retrospect, the bed box was a mistake. It is too difficult to get things into and out of it. I did not want to cover the entire bed, as i thought that would eliminate the usefulness of the bed and restrict its ability to carry large or tall items. But, if I could do it again, I would get the lockable bed cover. But the rollbar really is nice "bling".

Yep, that's what I was meaning to say smile.png

@Ignis: thanks for posting those pics, I'm not game enough to post pre-prod pics after the sh*t storm over the Vigo Champ leaks..

I really like this bed cover combination.

Very cool, indeed. You should go to Boy Air on north Sukumvit and ask them if they can get it or know who can. They have some nice bed covers, mostly/all Carryboy, but i did not see that one. The are very nice people and very easy to deal with -- I am happy wit everything that they have done for me.

1000 kms to the tank - I assume you do alot of highway driving?

Has anyone ever bought the 2 door mega cab or whatever its called? Big cab inside but only 2 seats...strikes me as completely pointless. Big bed with 3 seats or 4 door 5 seats but a waste of space in between! If I got a truck the 4 door triton would be top contender currently, more good reviews in this thread too.

The 4 door Triton is top of my list as well, but I seem to get the impression that because they have been producing virtually the same model for 8 years that it's getting to be old technology. The new Triton will be out sometime this year so I'm sure there will be some serious discounting of the run-out model.

The Triton is a good pickup, it isnt so well known that Mitsubishi is the only manufacturer that can make every component in house, other manufacturers must rely on tier 2 and 3 supplier for a lot of parts like starter motors, alternators etc.

Mitsu even have a line for making Nissan parts in Laem Cha bang.

They don't just make Nissan parts - they make the Navara in it's entirety :)

The new NV300 will be assembled at a new Nissan plant though.

All manufacturers make a 2-door mega/extra cab model in order to save on excise taxes (3% for 2-door pickups, 12% for 4-door pickups), This form factor also results in a larger tray area, but still "seats 5" (in actual use, not officially).

Does that mean they sell with 2 seats but can get the 3 extra back seats aftermarket?

The doors makes sense, just leaving back seats out seems odd.

It's a bench big enough for a set of golf clubs.
