I had a double hernia OP about 5 years ago. An indication as to how well it was done is that I play tennis 3 or 4 times a week and I often forget that I ever had the op. I had a mesh inserted and I have no visible scar. I had it done at Ram, so probably the same surgeon, as mentioned by TPTHAI2, who was recommended to me by Dr. Tawatchai at Loi Kroh clinic. He said he had a very good reputation of none recurring problems, which so far is true.

The fly in the ointment was the bill, about 70,000 baht.

Price is not too bad. I paid 60,000 for one side.

I envy you both. Because I have low blood palettes, (thin blood), Bangkok Heart Hospital in Bangkok wanted 550,000 baht because they were afraid I would bleed to death inside after the surgery. I said no, even though my hospital in the states would not even consider doing the operation with low blood palettes. 30 years with the hernia, I can go on. {Umbilical hernia}.

I think you mean PLATELETS.

Do you have an inguinal hernia? One side or both? If you have a hernia on one side then most general surgeons at any of the hospitals in town can repair it using the open method. Every general surgeon is trained in open hernia repair and it is one of the most common and oldest procedures anywhere in the world. It is normally done as an outpatient procedure. If you have a hernia on both sides then it's likely you will need surgery using the endoscopic/laparoscopic repair method. The guy recommended above seems to fit that qualification. I doubt very seriously anyone will repair it using the endoscopic/laparoscopic repair method for 70K THB. Perhaps double that.

If you have another type of hernia, then it could be more complex a procedure.

Another brilliant post from a cheap charlie in Thailand. Do you have any idea how much a surgeon would charge in the West to repair a hernia? It cost me the equivalent of 150,000 THB about 10 years ago in America. To have a top surgeon in Thailand do the same procedure (one side) using the open method for 1/2 the price is a bargain! 40K.....LOL...get real dude.

Why pay more than you need to. I was quoted 40,000 bht by a private hospital 3 yrs ago, after making enquiries regarding a competent surgeon, had the surgery in government hospital for 10,000, perfect job, no problems.

It wouldn't take too much time thinking about it and finding answers to your question, would it? Give it a try, and if you can't think of any get back to us and we'll let you know. If you prefer, we can give you clues instead, and then tell you if you're hot or cold.

Assuming , like everyone else here, that you know that a private hospital would be more expensive than a government hospital, why did you even bother going there?

Well I've never visited the Cayman Islands, so I don't know if I would like to live there or not. As it happens I do live in Thailand, it's not a perfect country, however I do like it here. The fact that I am rich or not has nothing to do with my paying for things, buying any product or service should be judged on it's value, remember a fool and his money are soon parted.
