We can only hope BM.

Any part time spinner is better than that bumbling fool.

Pakistan chasing 480 runs...even then Lyon can't produce anything near like a few balls to win a  match...

Then we have the fawning Channel 9 commentators, who surely are among the world's worst, falling over each other to praise one good ball by Lyon as if the bloke is just starting to come good.

Give me the ball and make me the only spinner trundling in and i'll take more than a few lucky wickets too as the opposing team's batsmen skip up the wicket trying to tonk me out of the ground for yet another 6.

Ask any player from outside Australia what they think of Lyon and their eyes will light up and they will say "We Love him!"
Then ask if they would want him in their team , "Hell no bro! The guy can sing a team song but he can't bowl for shit! We just love when he comes on to bowl and we can get some free hits for runs!"

Although the Aussie test side has improved i think a couple of tweaks to the side could be done.

Maddison must have survived the cut with the selectors waiting for Shaun Marsh to be fit to replace him

at a later date considering they only gave Ferguson one crack at number 6.

IMO Handscombe can take over the gloves from Wade which would free up the all rounders spot for Cummins to ease his way back into test cricket.

And possibly replace Lyon with a leggy,Zampa,Boyce or Ahmed.

Anyway it will be business as usual on boxing day,in front of the telly with a few tinnies shouting Cmon Aussie Cmon:smile:

Yep, Shaun Marsh for Maddison at this stage.

Cummins hopefully for Bird in the near future.

Still leaves us with a dud keeper and spinner.

I've read that Handscombe isn't anything like test quality but I don't think you can take Wade to India.

Maybe target the best keeper in Shield cricket and give him a go.

Haddin is probably still the best going around.

Boxing day test and a BB game......nice.

Interesting point raised by Sunil Gavaskar on TMS during the last India v England test about leg byes.

He wants them abolished.

His reasoning being that whilst a bye is due to a mistake by the fielding side, usually the wicketkeeper, leg byes are not down to any mistake by them nor any action by the batsman.

The batsman played and missed, or was attempting to get out of the way, and the ball hit and bounced off some part of his body and past the field; not because of any action or skill by the batsman but down to pure chance.

So why should the fielding side be penalised by giving runs to the batting side?

Gavaskar reckons that if the ball hits any part of the batsman body, except the hands which are counted as part of the bat if that hand is holding the bat or the batsman is judged to have handled the ball and so out, or if the batsman is judged to be out lbw, then the ball should be declared dead; as it currently is if it hits the batsman when he isn't playing a shot or attempting to evade it.

I agree with him.

Steve Waugh has made the same suggestion in the past as well.

Any thoughts?

An interesting theory.

I think I quite like it actually.

And if it's good enough for Tugga Waugh to like it, it's good enough for me.

Maybe Chris Hartley in QLD...500 Sheffield catches...i think he has 8 centuries also...

In test matches, the best keeper should be chosen always...one or two dropped catches or stumpings can be the game..

Not a bad call BookMan,

Just had a look at his stats and he's nearly 35 though. Maybe he could do a job for us until the next one comes through.

Sam Whiteman from WA has a decent record also.

I'd agree with him.

You cant get caught out from the leg, but you can get runs by the leg...

It is a quirky anomaly...

I haven't heard it mentioned before and i'm not sure World Cricket has the ability to reach a consensus on it.

Any thoughts on the first day of the boxing day test  (Australia v Pakistan)

looked to be a great day's cricket, spoiled only by the rain and the inclusion of Nathan Lyon in the team

Yes mate, a cracking game last night at the WACA.

Good to see MJ back.

Kills me to see Hoggy running around for another team though.

Whoever was responsible for letting him go should get the arse!

Looking forward to the Scorchers game today and just read that MJ has been rested!

Rested after bowling 4 overs.......please.

Was pretty hard going, especially early on with Pakistan only making 60 in the first session.

The pitch looks pretty flat and not a good one for test cricket IMO.

Looks like they're getting stuck in "Gary" this morning.

The ball is turning and he's still going at over 4 runs per over.

Why is he always bowling at middle and leg and turning it down leg side?

He should be bowling 6 inches outside off stump and try and get them trying to hit through the covers.

It seems Smith has lost confidence in him as well.

Nathan Lyon is known as being a run machine..4 an over is frugal for him.

I missed the first session, but I can see that Steve Smith bowled himself and also Maddinson...

Steve started in the Ozzie team as a specialised leg spinner...i don't know why he doesn't bowl more...What is the point in even playing Lyon? Surely we should be putting our best team on the park.

Interestingly I see that Mitchell Starc is ranked inside the top 10 all rounders in the world.  #7

Nathan Lyon given his 14th and almost FINAL chance to improve!

Australian selectors and coach have told Nathan Lyon he has to improve his bowling or he might find himself dropped.

Following 13 previous warnings that he might be dropped, Darren Lehmann has said that this time they really really truly mean it and Nathan must improve his line and entice opposition players to hit against the spin.

Lehmann admitted that Lyon had been previously saved due to his unique singing voice for the team song and general arse-licking around the team

Geez buddy...Darren Lehmann is following your advice again...see previous post of mine and the article where it says exactly what u have here...

The Scorchers nearly threw away the unlosable game last night, with Agar putting the last ball over the fence.

For the life of me I don't know it got to the last over.

After 17 overs they only needed 19 runs to win with 8 wickets in hand.

They should've finished it in the 19th.

Unfortunately the captain Voges is the worst player in the side.

Bring in Hilton Cartwright and make Klinger captain.

well well well..
COuld Pakistan lose the unlosable??

AFter scoring 440 1st innings and Australia answering with 624 declared..

Now Pakisstan 4/63 with a session and half to go last day!

Settle down there big fella...

Good first wicket, lucky second wicket...

This is what he is in the team for...Finish off teams under pressure...Usually he relieves the pressure but this game he has a chance to maintain the pressure..keep the batsmen guessing

The second wicket of Younis was a shocking shot.

Younis should give the game away.

Maybe Nafe is just teasing us.

9 down now lads!!

Nathan Lyon proves he can be a match winner by allowing himself to be removed from the attack and let Mitchell Starc come in and clean up with some scintillating bowling

Sensational stuff!

Done and dusted...Mitchell Starc's day....smashed the ball out of the ground and came in and bowled us to a win

Well you got your wish Will with Voges out of the scorchers with a hammy:smile:

Happy to see changes to the Aussie line up but with talk of a warm up for India.

We have a test to win in Aus,not Indian conditions.

Bird must be thinking what do i have to do more to keep his place, very unlucky,O'keeffe

for Lyon would have been my go if they want to try another spinner as it leaves little room for Cartwright to show his talents.

The Scorchers depth will be further tested when they lose Willey and possibly Mitch Marsh to the one day side.

Agar should come straight in for Voges.

I hope the Heat drop their game today against the Sixers.

After winning the toss and batting, the Aussies are 0/126 at lunch with Warner on 100 from 78 balls.

Only the 5th batsmen to score a century before Lunch on 1st day of a Test.

I'm looking forward to seeing how Cartwright goes.
