Bicycle theft

Featured Replies

I need to buy a bike for cruising around town. Looking at a 'so-called' used bike, formerly a rental. Looks new and works well. Have a lock-up shed for night time but are these good looking bikes more prone to thievery than common oldies? Are locked up bikes stolen during mid day in busy town area?

This bike made in T'land, semi fat tires, no susp, 5K baht. My feelings are old clunkers attract less attention but also make the ride agonizing.

I bought a secondhand bike yesterday, for circa 15k.

My first extra purchase this morning was 2 locks for it.

My next purchase will be 1m of steel chain from global for wrapping around a lighting column.

Surely its not what you have but how you look after it?

Bring an expensive bike that's in excellent shape to a bike shop for a tune-up and you'll get back one that looks beat up but might not be in good mechanical condition anymore. But seriously (not that I wasn't being honest) there a long thread about stolen bikes already going that might be of some help.

I have had several fairly expensive bikes over many years and never had one stolen. I always lock them somewhere where where I or some kind of guard is close by if I can.

Lots of nice high end bikes around CM.

Theft prevention is key and It's part of ownership.

Just how undesireable would one have to make a bike theft proof in CM?

Covering it in roadkill or feces?

What if the bike had an Amulet onboard? or shrunken heads?

Have a shrunken head with small sign in thai/lao/Burmese that says "last person who stole my bicycle"

For theft it's about opportunity not condition of bike...

Recommend those crytonyte Locks with key...

CB

I have several Krytonite motorcycle locks and cables that I'm not using any longer and would be willing to sell.

Cables are much harder to cut than chain, and very few people carry extra large cable cutters in the back of their trucks, as they do bolt cutters.

The cables are the extra thick ones no longer being made. The biggest sold originally for $125+ The smaller ones with the buil-in locks sold for about $80

The large New York U-lock sold for $135 new, and the Brake Lock sold for about $45+/-

Make a realistic offer and you can have 'em. Msg me.
