Troops find 91,000 sacks of rice missing from a Pathum Thani warehouse

Rice stock check of a warehouse in Pathum Thani province by the army on Friday has shown that 91,000 sacks of milled rice worth 69 million baht have been missing.

Troops led by Colonel Sooksan Nongbualang, commander of Second Infantry Regiment of the Royal Guards descended on the warehouse of Phoenix Agritech (Thailand) Company in Muang district of Pathum Thani to investigate after it was reported that some 10,000 sacks of rice had disappeared from the warehouse last year.

The warehouse reportedly stored about 130,000 sacks of milled rice owned by the Marketing Organisation for Farmers.

The search team found many rows of rice stacked together several metres high from the floor. However, when troops climbed up what looked like a mountain of stacked rice it was discovered that there was no rice behind the visible rows of rice.

Initial checks showed that 91,000 sacks of 5 percent white rice have been missing.

Phoenix Agritech is one out of four companies in Pathum Thani’s Muang district which were contracted by the MOF to store rice bought under the rice pledging scheme.

Colonel Panlop Fuangfoo, commander of the 2nd artillery regiment, said that surveyors would be brought in later on to check the quality of the rice stored in the warehouse to determine whether it matched with the quality earlier declared.

After the search, troops were deployed to guard the warehouse to prevent any unauthorized persons from moving rice in or out of the warehouse.

It is what TV members have been saying for a long time, but still nice to see proof.

When the rice scam is unraveled, I think a lot of the corruption money that was made will

have been off of phantom sacks of rice. Rice that was not stolen, but simply never

existed.

and in another thread a bereaved mother is seeking the truth !

There must be quite a lot of people who know what went on there. Perhaps the workers that piled up the sacks will start talking first. They usually don't get much money for it. Then it's "easier" to tell on others.

Tip of rice iceberg!

Riceberg but without another 90% unseen, just not there!

There really is a new sheriff in town. I don't think any of the scammers, crooks, thieves, grifters, and outright robbers who have bled this country white over the past few years EVER thought the day would come when somebody would do a real inspection and catch them red handed. Things aren't being swept under the rug anymore.

And this is what happened when you leave the cat to look after the milk.....

And former-PM Yingluck & her PTP former-government, were so confident that there was absolutely no missing rice, that they wouldn't release any of the numbers or send-in the auditors ? clap2.gif

Perhaps she should have bothered showing-up, at the committee-meetings ? whistling.gif

It is a good thing that the soldiers had done their training practice and not being office types were able to climb to the top and see the truth.

Congratulations on a job well done.

How heavy is a sack in this case?

So we can expect the owners of this Thai warehouse to be handcuffed and hauled away?

Tip of rice iceberg!

Dont you mean this is only the tip of the riceberg?

Another paper reports most of the 39,000 sacks remaining in the wearhouse are infested with weevils. I wonder if any action will be taken to recover its value.

This was supposed to be the perfect scheme. Borrow 1 trillion baht from the government owned bank and buy rice. Then borrow 2 trillion baht for a high speed rail and siphon off enough to pay back losses from the rice scheme.

Yingluck traveled all over the world looking for a lender for the rail system and couldn't find it. If she got the loan, they were going to get a 50 year loan to kick the can so far down the road that they would be long gone.

But the price of rice fell to 1/3 what they paid for it, and they couldn't get the rail loan. Now all that was left was largely missing rice, a lousy market price for what they had, and some of what was left was infested or moldy. They couldn't move left or right and they didn't.

How could this not be the biggest scam on the people and the banks in Thailand? How are they going to pay back what's left of that 1 trillion baht they borrowed? The Ag Bank is technically bankrupt because this is the collateral for the loans.

A few bags here and there you expect but 91,000 bags blink.png That is taking the P*ss big style.

I get the impression that the Army is cracking down hard on many of the things that the politicians have ignored for years in the hope that they will be asked / allowed to remain in power for longer.

They have certainly ruffled a few feathers since taking power.

Shouldn’t they prosecute everyone involved in authorization and publication of this statement for knowingly spreading false information while in office?

I think that they are 50kg sacks. I don't know for sure.

Please tell me it isn't so, corruption is a virtue, in some parts of the world......

I loved it when things were so much more easy in the old days.... If this is to be a part, in the old days we held enough to feed the family for a year... So what has happened now.....

Kerry

For goodness sake sell that stuff before it all walks or rots away.

A Potemkin Warehouse, Amazing Thailand.

The rice scheme was a Taksin/red faction project, so the army are purposely digging to make Taksin and crew to be the number one enemies of the state. Blacken their names, have the courts ban them from future elections, and bingo, you guys have a one party yellow government, forever! Enjoy.

It's fun to empty your sacks from time to time. Especially in Thailand.

Sure they should but they probably won't. They couldn't be selective. If they prosecuted every politician that was in office that spread false information, the innocent could probably be counted on one hand.

this is real simple, the were using the "phantom Rice" as collateral for the train scam. The rice was never there. They made up the numbers to try and qualify for the loan and that is where the real kickback would be. Just follow the paperwork.

If what you say is true and of course anyone with one eye and half sense knows it isn't, Thaksin and crew have nothing to worry about if they are innocent of wrong doing. And if this be the case then the Thai populace will easily see through the witch hunt resulting in increased popularity of Thaksin and crew. So in reality they should have nothing to worry about....that is if they are innocent.

Justice in Thailand does not exist, if the powers that be want you damned, then the courts will simply do as they are told and find you guilty.

The ordinary folk have no say anymore, the coup proves that.
