I want to buy a pickup with my misus as guarantor. I have a WP.

I intend to pay 25% deposit and apply for car finance pay back each month for 5 yrs. Will the finance company ask me for criminal record check?

Also, if I pay out the finance prior to end of agreed term, is there a penalty for early repayment. I realise it could differ from company to company but maybe you could tell me about your contract...

thanks

No, police check not needed. No penalty for earlier payment, if you're lucky you may even get a discount on the interest.

You may not need your wife as guarantor if you stump up 30% deposit and have a more than adequate salary and over 1 year pay slips.. This is the case with Toyota Leasing I understand..

Correct, no police check.

One or both (I can't recall now) of the previous car and motorcycle loans I did here required 50% of the remaining interest paid if you paid it off early.

Yes, that's what I meant, a 50% discount, but also full payment is not an exception.

Even with 20% down, the OP may get finance in his own name since he has a WP.

In 2009 I financed a Toyota Yaris with no Thai guarantor with 40% down, which I was told was the minimum needed to finance with out a Thai person.

I bought a car less than a month ago, no mention of a police check, I have a work permit, I gave then a copy of two payslips, they told me 25% is the minimum deposit for a foreigner, no Thai guarantor. Like any where in the world finance works on a points system, how long have you been at the same address, how long have you worked at the same job. Don't know about paying it off early it is a lease agreement, I don't actually own the car the bank does so probably have to pay the full amount. Interest rate 2.6 %.
