Fixing My Cell Phone In Samui

Featured Replies

I bought a very nice phone in Bangkok. Wow, it was wonderful. About 2 weeks after I purchased it the software started crashing. A few days later the phone became completly unusable because of this problem.

I made a trip back to MBK because I had a "guarantee" for one year on the phone. Well I guess that guarantee doesnt mean anything in Thailand because this is what I was offered: "You sell me broken phone back for 7,000 baht and then you buy new phone again for 14,000 baht"

WHAT THE HE|L KIND OF GUARANTEE IS THAT?

Wow, what a great system. Anyways, I contact Samsung and they say that they can fix it for free for me but I have to mail it to them and it will take TWO MONTHS!

This is getting rediculous. I know for a fact that this is a simple operation. All I need is a samsung data cable (not the one that comes with the phone, its a special one) and download the new firmware and send it over to the phone. It will take about 30 mins to perform this task, not two months.

Im not sure if there is a place on the island where they might have all the various cables and such to be able to do this. All I see are phone selling shops, nothing for repair. And Im afraid they are going to crack it open and start pulling the motherboard apart when all I need is a simple software reset.

Does anyone know where I can take my phone?

Here on Koh Phangan when they have a difficult repair or need to unlock a phone that requires data cables they send the phone to Surat Thani. If you can't find anything within a few days PM me and I will ask the owner of the phone shop if the place in Surat can do it and I'll get the name.

Ok, Sounds good.

Actually Im wondering if I should just take a trip back up to BKK and try and get it sorted out there. I have some things I need to do there anyways. I just dont want to leave my phone with Samsung for two months.

Not sure if they are still there but a phone shop in Lamai, coming off the ring road from hinta Hinyai take the 2nd entraces into lamai (not the one that goes past the boxing ring) & about 1/3rd of the way down on the right hand side there used to be a small phone shop, really nice thai couple running it. They fixed loads of phone problems for me, even sending one phone to BKK that I thought was completly fcuked, it took a week but cost me only 1k baht instead of the cost of a new one (they flew it there & back). They were the 1st place on samui as well to have an unlock facility & the guy seemed very "techie" :o

As I said, I'm not sure it's still there but it's worth looking right?

Best of luck,
