It just wasn't the time to punch my ticket

Featured Replies

It wasn't my time to bite the bullet or let me put it another way. I could have ended up on the wrong side of the grass "BUT I DIDN'T"

Call it fate or just call it "my time wasn't up" or just call it " my angels were looking out for me"

I stepped of the curb and and a maniac on a Honda clic sent me 21 meters sailing through the air like I was shot out of a cannon.

NOTHING happened to me at all.I could have fractured my clavical or destroyed by elbows or wrists but nothing happened to me

glad you are o.k. indeed go buy a lottery ticket.

it's like a war zone out there. they are the most dangerous drivers in the world.

A local bar I used to frequent occasionally had 'ticket only' evenings with entertainment. As a regular I thought I might be exempt, so when the doorman asked for my ticket I told him "my face is my ticket". "I'm sorry sir", he said " but I have to punch all the tickets". I never did go back.

sounds more like an absent minded pedestrian to me.

full shilling and picnic sandwich springs to mind......................again

How did you estimate 21 metres? Was that on the fly or included slide time?

Look where you're going before you go wandering onto the road

good point.

I always look both ways even on the one way streets.

But in all fairness to the OP I have seen many motor bikes suddenly move over from behind the car in front of them to the side of it so fast that if you were standing on the road you wouldn't stand a chance of avoiding them.

Best to stay on the sidewalk until you see you have a chance of crossing.

Funny. He doesn't look Chinese to me. biggrin.png

I should probably keep my flappy yap shut, but...

These posts drive me nuts. We were recently treated to this guy in Pattaya who, a year or so ago, popped his scooter out of a soi directly into main road traffic with a pick up truck barrelling down on his egress point. After narrowly missing a scrape with the truck, he then proceeded to fall off his bike two times without assistance or external contact, and gave the pickup truck guy the hairy eyeball at a red light for being so stupid as to be driving down the road at an inconvenient time. Said scooter rider was shocked and traumatized to find that the pickup guy wanted to pound him for being stupid and irritating. Sorry, but I can't find that thread to provide a link.

Now Mr. Eric, you step off a sidewalk onto a roadway directly into oncoming traffic, and in so doing cause a thoroughly predictable collision, and the guy on the bike is a Maniac? Because, he was riding a Honda Click along the road at exactly the time and location where you wanted to step off the sidewalk? How dare the fool! Maniac indeed!

And he sent you flying for 21 metres like a well struck bowling pin. Not 20 metres: 21. So just for perspective, if you were just off the edge off the sidewalk on one side of the moat, a graceful arc of 21 metres would land you well and securely on or past the sidewalk on the other side of the moat, high and dry. I'm no physicist, but I bet someone here could calculate the force transfers required from a moving bike to a semi-stationary pedestrian for that kind of cannon launch. You weigh about 80 kg? My guess is the Click was doing north of 150 km/hr with a cow catcher mounted on the front. Those are good little bikes. I've got one myself.

I am sure there was some sort of mishap more or less as described. I am sincerely glad that you came out unscathed, and hope the same is true for the Maniac.

Well, OP, I'll bet you're glad you shared your narrow escape story with this sympathetic crowd.

Like Gene Pitney used to say...It isn't very pretty what a Town Without Pity can do!

On moving to Thailand I quickly learned to look both ways before stepping onto a road or even a sidewalk, even a one way road. And when walking down a sidewalk in Bangkok be sure to look behind you before suddenly changing direction, as a speeding motorcycle may be coming up from behind at 50 kph plotting a course roughly one inch to your left or right. ALWAYS assume that everybody on the road is a stupid idiot and may do something insane at any moment.

He joined the caterpillar in my salad man and they always carry a ruler or tape measure with them...... Its the latest fad thingy.....Just in case someone yells that is not 6 inches.... they have the equipment to prove it.

actually the recommended procedure is to check all 6 directions before crossing the road.TiT

And when driving on the road, ALWAYS assume that everybody on the pavement/sidewalk/footpath is a stupid idiot and may do something insane like stepping into the road without looking at any moment....

I find it hard to believe you were thrown 21m without injury.

More likely, whatever made you relaxed enough to remain unhurt was also responsible for stepping onto the road in the first instant and also affected your judgement of distance.

You did well to get home unscathed. biggrin.png

21 meters is a fair distance.

And a Honda Click is not a big bike.

What happened to the bike? And the rider?

Just as a matter of comparison the world long jump record is 8.95meters. Well done.

Considering that you were almost launched into space, now that 2 days have passed, how do you feel??

Any little aches and pains?

He'll reply when he comes down to earth after recovering from altitude sickness.

OP, what happened to the poor guy on the Honda Click?

Eric as with all his threads likes to light the blue touch paper and then stand well back to watch the fireworks.

just be careful friday, wouldn't want you to have another accident.

sounds more like an absent minded pedestrian to me.

.

We all make mistakes.

A few years back a similar thing happened to me but the bike hitting me was not more than a 100cc and not going very fast.

He hit me and fell over. I was completely in the wrong as I was looking for oncoming traffic from my left as i crossed the street.

I was happy the motorbike driver was unhurt.

Chok dee.

Go buy a lottery ticket.

What was the license plate number of the clic? 555

OMG this thread has finally caught up with a g/f of mine, if in fact it is the same ''incident''

I was showing her this thread about this poor old guy nearly being having his ticket punched.
She said she was riding her bike past Suan Prung Psychiatric Hospital on that day going to 7/11
Suddenly this little bald guy came stumbling out onto the road without looking and screaming out..''my bloody wife has left me and has taken my salt pepper shakers with her and now i
have only pepper salt shakers ..oh woe is me , i can't live like this, i should be committed!!!!''
She tried to dodge him, but he slowly ran straight into her and tripped and fell on the road..he was not hit by the bike,he ran into the bike!
The distance of 21 meters is very exaggerated, she said more like 21 centimeters, but i guess he was in shock and got it so wrong..poor guy.
He looked like this guy here but she saw that the ''victim''had glasses on, they were all fogged up, she said... post-169941-0-16608600-1404455668_thumb. Google Mr Magoo for those who don't know..

Mr magoo is trying so hard to reply, but he is still concussed and doesn't know what to say.

Come on eric try......

Want to try the same trick again but with my Vigo!

to improve on the 21m you mean?

Indeed, it would allow us both to perfect our technique and records might fall in the process.
