Waves up to 2-3 meters high detected in Chantaburi province

CHANTHABURI, 10 July 2014 (NNT) - Waves up to 2-3 meters high have been sighted in Chanthaburi province, which have affected a number of local fishermen living near the area.


Local fishermen across Laem Singh, Nayaiarm, Khlung, and Tha Mai districts of the province are unable to set sail due to the strong waves. All fishing activities have been put on hold at the moment until the waves get calmer.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department in Chanthaburi province has forecast that the area will be beset by cloudy skies. At least 60 percent of the province is to brace for scattered thunderstorms and heavy rains.

In Chanthaburi and Trat provinces, strong winds are expected to generate waves up to 2-3 meters high. Therefore, large boats are to stay cautious whenever setting sail and small boats should be kept ashore for safety.

Nong Khai – Vientiane collaborate against emerging infectious diseases

NONG KHAI, 9 July 2014 (NNT) - Nong Khai provincial public health office and Vientiane public health division have agreed to work in close collaboration to prevent the further development of emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) found along the border. The joint effort will also prepare medical officials from both countries for the start of the ASEAN Economic Community.


Officials from Nong Khai provincial public health and the Vientiane public health division called a meeting at the White Hotel in Nong Khai to discuss building awareness and preparation for EIDs commonly found along the border between Nong Khai – Vientiane.

The two parties have been partners overseeing border public health for more than 20 years, since the opening of the first Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge in 2006.

Having signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on food safety cooperation, the parties agreed to start official collaboration on awareness and management of EIDs. A public health database will be developed by the partnership to prepare medical staff to be ready for the AEC.

Panadda: Rice inspection for possible irregularities to be complete late August

Interim charter to be promulgated by July

BANGKOK: -- The draft interim constitution in now in the process of being submitted to His Majesty the King for signing, Assistant Army chief Gen Paibul Khumchaya said on Thursday.

Paibul, who is chief of the legal division of the National Council for Peace and Order, said he did not know how long the documentary process of the submission of the draft would be. But he is certain that the draft will be sent back by the King for promulgation by the end of July.

The interim charter will spell out the authority of the NCPO and the interim administration as well as the composition of the National Legislative Assembly and the Reform Council.

Paibul declined to say whether NCPO chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha would become the interim prime minister following the promulgation of the interim charter.

He also declined to confirm whether Prayuth's term as Army chief would be extended after he reaches his mandatory retirement at the end of September.

BANGKOK, July 10 -- Police early Friday took Wanchai Saengkhao, accused of the rape and murder of "Nong Kaem," to court and objected his temporary release on bail as they initially charged him on four counts including assault and murder, sexual assault, robbery, and drug abuse.
