Are most bars closed this weekend?

Was just planning a night out with some friends but saw that there is the 48 hour alcohol ban..

Does this mean all bars and night clubs will be closed until 12pm on Saturday?

Will the tourist oriented places be shut too?

I remember when I was in BKK it seemed that most big bars / clubs were open anyways, when sales of alcohol was banned.

Bars in hotels are exempt from these rules BUT bars such as those on LoiKhro will be shuttered unless they want a hefty fine..This is a major Buddha Holiday, Lent. BTW Chiang Mai is not Bangkok.

This messes up what could have been a great long weekend.

These days it must be horrible being a bar owner, or even restaurant owner, first the curfew, then the strict enforcement of the closing times during the world cup, and now another weekend spoiled.

But of course we are all happy.

Why not stay in every night? stay in, drink water, grow veg, eat bugs, read books.

That's what we were told also down here in Pattaya during one of the previous holidays. Went to the Hard Rock for some music and hopefully a drink. No problem said the staff. But has to be sent to your room. Right....

Beer in coffee cups is not legal, but often (not always) ignored.

Byob is legal, I think, but up to the establishment. They may not want to draw attention.

Bars can theorectically open to serve soft drinks. Not many believe that they do.

Strange how so many call for professional law enforcement then whine when it happens and try and turn it into some political propaganda.

Guess you preferred life under the Shins when the brown envelope could resolve anything.

Sad how some rely on a depressant like alcohol to become happy. Or is it the other attractions of the bar?

Because it's the first proper weekend for our bunch of new interns and would like to go see how the nightlife is!

here in Rayong it seems the bars are only closed today (Friday) and will be open tomorrow.

Interesting.. wonder if it'll be the same here? At least technically they could start selling after midnight on Saturday.

No they can not. Alcohol can only be sold from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to midnight. Thai law.

You can count on the junta to make darn sure the laws are followed from now on during the Thai holidays.

I don't like it either, but they are doing some amazing things to clean up this country at long last, which means we won't be able to benefit from the corruption we like either, lol

Rubbish!

That's for sales of less than 10 litres in shops. Different licensing rules apply to places of entertainment.

Most won't bother to open just for a couple of hours; but one or two usually do in Pattaya where 'lights out' is typically 3.00 am.

May even try opening from about 11.00 pm on.
