Hi there,

We have just moved to a new house in Hang Dong. We need to baby proofing the stairs from our toddlers. If anyone know where to buy cheap safety gate new or used please let us know.

Thank you!

You can buy them on-line from Bangkok but they are so cheaply made (Chinese) that the child can just push it over. Coincidentally we saw a couple of them here a few weeks ago but the seller was so disappointed in the quality of them that she was returning them to the supplier in BKK as she was afraid a child would become severely injured from the product.

We also looked for something like that when the baby was little and never could find anything safe.

They certainly used to sell them in Central in the baby section. I believe I.S. Baby also had them.

They carried the Lindham gate range with the extension pieces as required.

I looked everywhere as well with no luck. Tried to get one made too, my GF drew a sketch with measurements but they wanted to do it here way which wasn't what I wanted so ended just going local and stuck a piece of bamboo fence in-between the bannisters which crossed the stairs (basically winging it). Not beautiful but safe.

They did have some pretty good looking imported used ones at the baby store near Hillkoff Coffee (the original location near the old bus station) but they didnt fit the kind of staircase we have. Worth a look as I've got lots of stuff there, not one to buy used, but they sometimes are the only ors that have what I need like a Japanese baby car seat for a van that does have special seat hook etc.

Try blue PVC water pipe with a right angle bends, and T junctions. You'll need a hack saw. Not ideal, but very strong and you can cut and make to measure easily. Hinges could be made from sturdy plastic ties attached to hooks. If you cannot stomach blue, you can get white pipe in some outlets, or used yellow electric conduit pipe.

Just stumbled upon another thread about white PVC pipes.

And see what people build with that biggrin.png

My g/f and I built a play area for our child when he was a baby similar to the one above. Everything was cut exactly to size and it looked really professional. I forget now but I think it was 3.5 X 3.5 meters. We had a vinyl covered foam mat made to order. Actually very similar to the example above. I figured we would just give it away when the baby outgrew it but the g/f said "no, I can sell it". She meticulously cleaned and disinfected it, took photos, put just the PVC on the net for about 2800 THB I think (we threw out the mat of course), and it sold within 3 hours. That's the one thing about Thailand, if you have good quality children's items, take care of them, they will be in demand when you re-sell them. Thais want good quality children's items.

How would something like this be secured to the top of a stairwell? The smallest of toddlers could knock it over if not anchored properly. They are fine on the ground, don't get me wrong.

We bought 2 in IS Baby, Chiang Mai Business Park a couple of years ago. We don't need anymore, gave one away and have one in storage under the stairs along with a push chair and baby car seat.

Would you give the second one away too or keep it for the next baby? We'd love to have it if it work with our stair. Thanks.

I was in the baby department in Central Festival this week and saw they had the Safety 1st U pressure gates. These are around £25 in the UK, so not bad value at around 1750 Baht here. They had the extension bits too.

Thank you very much, we went and got one with the extension. We also found in I.S baby which is around 2500 Baht. The Baby2nd hand shop in Chang Phueak Residence also has the used one for around 1700 -1900 baht.

Thanks again for all helpful information!
